LBL Announces Winter 2011 Eagle Viewing Trips

A new Christmas tradition is beginning in downtown Springfield,Tn. Come share a “Christmas Down Home” on December 11, 12, 18 and 19. Audiences will be reminded what life was like in a small Southern town before malls were on every street corner and when Christmas was not just about receiving presents.

“Christmas Down Home” is an evening of music and storytelling in true Southern tradition. It will be presented at Burdett’s Tea Shop in Springfield’s historic downtown by an accomplished group of professional performers. In past years, you may have enjoyed the Southern Christmas Sampler presented by Mockingbird Theatre and Tennessee Repertory Theatre in Nashville.If so you will be familiar with some of the pieces that will be included in Christmas Down Home. You will fondly recall Gloria Houston’s “The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree” and Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory” performed by David Alford and Paul Carrol Binkley. «Read the rest of this article»

LBL’s Golden Pond Planetarium Offers Holiday Shows

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Looking for a fun, family holiday outing? Come explore the customs and celebrations of the holiday season with the Golden Pond Planetarium shows and enjoy holiday music with Laser Lights Music Shows at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area.

The Golden Pond Planetarium offers shows Wednesday-Sunday, December 1st-19th. ‘Tis the Season looks at the seasonal, religious, and cultural rituals from around the world, and how the stars and planets have played an important role in these celebrations throughout history.

Free Cedar Christmas Trees Offered at LBL

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area is again giving people the opportunity to get outdoors and get a tree by offering Christmas tree permits beginning December 1st for visitors to cut cedar trees.

The permit, valid December 1st-24th, entitles a family to cut one cedar tree at no charge. Permits, maps, and cutting guidelines may be obtained from the LBL Administrative Office, 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday through close of business on December 23rd. LBL Small Game Hunting Seasons Begin

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Small game hunting season opens at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area beginning December 1st.

All hunters (age 16 and older) must have an LBL Hunter Use Permit, an appropriate state license, and observe applicable state laws and LBL rules regarding hunting zones and safety precautions. «Read the rest of this article»


LBL “No Hunting” Zones Open to Archery Deer Hunting

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will open certain areas typically marked as “No Hunting” zones for archery deer hunting December 1st through January 17th.  Hunters are encouraged to harvest deer without antlers in these areas to reduce deer populations.

Areas open to archery hunting include Piney Campground and Brandon Spring Group Center.  Archery hunting will also be permitted in the South Nature Watch Demonstration Area across The Trace from South Welcome Station, in the eastern portion of Hunt Area 16. Hillman Ferry Campground will be open for archery hunting during the above dates. During that time, they will be closed December 10th-12th, for a special event. «Read the rest of this article»


LBL Begins 2011 Seasonal Camping Program Process

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area is now accepting applications for the 2011 seasonal camping program. 

There are a total of 110 campsites in the seasonal camping program available for two to nine months at Hillman Ferry, Piney, and Wranglers Campgrounds. Rushing Creek, Cravens Bay, Taylor Bay, Gatlin Point, Birmingham Ferry, and Redd Hollow Campgrounds have a total of 48 short-term (one to six months) sites available.  «Read the rest of this article»




LBL Holiday Programs Focus on Cultural Rituals & Historic Christmas Traditions

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Celebrate the spirit of the holiday season by getting outdoors in Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area and take part in a variety of fun, traditional, and educational programs.

On Saturday, November 27th, from 1:00pm-4:00pm, The Homeplace celebrates Christmas in 1850.  This program offers the smell of homemade cookies, stockings hung over the fire place, and voices raised in song, signifying that Christmas has come to The Homeplace. 

Visitors can learn to make simple Christmas decorations to decorate the tree, collect favorite holiday recipes, and relax to the sound of old-time Christmas tunes with the Dixie Volunteers. Later, join in singing 1800’s Christmas carols as we usher in Santa Claus by horse-drawn wagon to delight everyone with tales from his past. African American Heritage Quilt Collaboration

 

Collaboration Between The Homeplace, Fort Donelson, & Quilters will Reveal African American Heritage

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Quilters from Tennessee and Kentucky will collaborate with The Homeplace, located in Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area, and Fort Donelson National Battlefield to design a series of quilts depicting the African American experience “Between the Rivers” (LBL), and the Civil War in Middle Tennessee. 

The project, which is being sponsored by The Homeplace, Fort Donelson National Battlefield, and the Emmanuel Family Life Center Quilting Guild of Clarksville, will begin with a panel discussion on African Americans at Fort Donelson, Fort Henry, and “Between the Rivers.”  Join us Saturday, November 20th, 2010, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Emmanuel Family Life Center, 303 Fairview Lane, Clarksville, Tennessee. «Read the rest of this article»

LBL Advisory Board to Meet November 18th

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY — The Land Between The Lakes (LBL) Advisory Board will hold its next meeting on Thursday, November 18th, 2010, at LBL’s Administrative Building, 100 Van Morgan Drive, Golden Pond, KY. The meeting will begin at 9:00am CST. This meeting is open to the public.
 
The 17-member board was formed to provide input and advice to the Forest Service on means of promoting public participation in the Area Plan and environmental education programs at LBL.
