LBL Honors Veterans on Veterans Day

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY — Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will join public lands across the nation in honoring veterans on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11th, with a one-day free entrance or user fee waiver at designated facilities.

Land Between The Lakes will offer veterans, active and retired members of the armed forces, and their families free entrance into the Elk & Bison Prairie (EBP), Woodlands Nature Station (NS), The Homeplace (HP), and the 1:00pm show (does not include special events) at Golden Pond Planetarium.  Veterans can pick up their free entry passes for the EBP at the Golden Pond Visitors Center (GPVC) on November 11th from 9:00am-5:00pm.  Also on November 11th, a one-day free vehicle permit will be issued for Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle Area and a free daily trailer permit at Wranglers Campground. «Read the rest of this article»

Autumn Comes Alive During LBL’s Fall Frolic

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Enjoy the changing colors and cooling temperatures at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area, when you help Woodlands Nature Station (NS) celebrate the fall season, Saturday & Sunday, November 6th and 7th, 2010.

Trick or Treating

Trick or Treating

While Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, Clarksville-Montgomery County has decided not to move the official trick or treating night. They also do not set an official time for trick or treating. Most people would expect trick or treaters between the hours of 6:00pm till around 9:00pm. Fort Campbell has moved their trick or treating night to Saturday; and there, trick or treating is allowed between 6:00pm and 8:00pm.

LBL Wildlife Refuge Closures on Lakes

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will close nine wildlife refuges to human entry and all activities including, hunting, fishing, and boating beginning November 1st.

These closures provide undisturbed resting and feeding areas for waterfowl, shorebirds, and eagles.  To serve this purpose, human activity must be minimized while migratory birds are present. SPIRIT, The Authentic Story of the Bell Witch

 
Adams, TN – Come to Bell School Grounds in Adams, Tennessee this weekend and take a step back in time to 1804 when middle Tennessee was still the frontier. It was this year, for reasons unknown, that John Bell moved his family from North Carolina to the Red River area now known as Adams. Shortly after they settled in, that strange noises began to be heard around the Bell house. Over time, the sounds slowly evolved into an eerie voice that called it itself Kate. The Bell family was tormented by Kate. Objects were moved by invisible hands, and the witch even pinched and slapped members of the household.

New Nature Watch Series at LBL

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area and Lake Barkley State Resort Park are teaming up to present the first in a new seasonal Nature Watch Series. Pelicans and Prairies will take place Saturday and Sunday, October 30th-31st. 

“Come out and enjoy abundant fall wildlife viewing opportunities at Lake Barkley and LBL,” said Sharon Waltrip, LBL’s Program Manager for Environmental Education and Interpretation. “This new Nature Watch Series will take outdoor enthusiasts to our region’s hidden corners to witness some of nature’s greatest moments, stay tuned for more in this exciting new series.”

LBL Late Fall & Winter Operation Schedules Announced

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Visitor facilities at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will begin their late fall and winter operation schedules in November.

The Homeplace and Woodlands Nature Station will be open Wednesday-Saturday, 9:00am-5:00pm and Sunday, 10:00am-5:00pm during November. The Homeplace, Nature Station, and the North and South Welcome Stations will be closed Thanksgiving Day, and all of December, January, and February. However, The Homeplace and Nature Station will offer various guided programs, including the popular Bald Eagle Van Tours and River Cruises.  «Read the rest of this article»

Land Between The Lakes Fall Colors Soon to Appear

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Enjoy an outdoor fall recreation opportunity by taking a drive through Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area. Revel in the cooler days, changing seasons, and autumn colors of your National Forest.

Visitors to LBL interested in viewing fall colors may do so by driving on the public access roads or by hiking, biking, horseback riding, or ATV riding on their respective designated trails.

Susan Bryant related her experiences in Chiapas Mexico during Autumn Salon Series

 

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University Professor Susan Bryant speaking as part of the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts’s Autumn Salon Series gave a presentation about her time volunteering in Chiapas, Mexico and the photographs she took of the region and its peoples. From 2003-2008 she was a member of an organization that sent groups of volunteers abroad to establish relationships with indigenous peoples located in the rural areas of Chiapas.

The first mission was sent to the region in June of 2004, and was headed by Matt Kenney, Professor of Political Science at APSU; they returned again the following year. Most of the members of the group attended of Immaculate Conception Church in Clarksville. The Church had already developed a relationship (sister parish) in Haiti, under the direction of Dr. Tom Grabenstien. They were to work in the town of San Pedro Chenalho with the church of the same name in Chiapas, with the priest Father Marcel Periez.

16th Annual Howl-O-Ween Returns to LBL’s Woodlands Nature Station

 

New Location & Time for this non-scary, kid-friendly day-time event of outdoor fun!

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Celebrate the lives of some of our favorite Woodland Neighbors on Saturday, October 23rd, at the 16th Annual Howl-O-Ween children’s program at the Nature Station in Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area. 

Enjoy the non-scary side of Halloween with this kid-friendly daytime environmental education program. Dress in your favorite costume and take a guided hike along our character trail where the animals of the forest will “come alive” before your eyes. Meet friendly Shelly the Skunk and Bandit the Raccoon who will entertain you with their woodsy wisdom and wit.
