APSU SoftballBrentwood, TN – Coming off a 3-0 weekend that included a shutout and a victory over Big Ten Conference member Michigan State, Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball senior left-hander Morgan Rackel was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office, Monday afternoon.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – As the Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team ends its pre-Ohio Valley Conference schedule, its six-member senior class is making a statement that it may be one of, if not the best, overall senior classes to come through the program.

Heading the group are three players who are in the middle of their fourth season with the Govs – catcher Carly Mattson, third baseman Danielle Liermann, outfielder Kacy Acree – and three others that transferred in from junior colleges following their sophomore seasons – outfielder Natalie Schilling and pitchers Kelly Mardones and Morgan Rackel.

Tennessee Vols to play Colgate in NCAA Tournament as #2 Seed

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Hours after playing in the SEC Tournament Championship game, the Tennessee Vols learned its NCAA Tournament draw Sunday.
 
The Volunteers (29-5) earned a program-best No. 2 seed for the third time ever (also in 2006 and 2008) and will travel to Columbus, Ohio.
 
Tennessee’s first-round opponent in South Region action is 15th-seed Colgate on Friday. Two days later, the winner of that game will then face the winner of the first-round matchup between Cincinnati and Iowa.

Austin Peay State University Women’s Golf in fourth at Citrus Challenge

APSU Women's GolfSorrento, FL – Something about RedTail Golf Club seems to really agree with Reagan Greene. The Austin Peay State University senior women’s golfer, who was runner-up at RedTail as part of the Citrus Challenge last season, started out the 2019 edition of the event with a two-over 74; she, along with teammate Taylor Dedmen, sit in a tie for ninth through 18 holes, Sunday.

APSU Softball beats Michigan State, 5-2

APSU SoftballOxford, OHKelsey Gross hit a three-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning versus Michigan State, Sunday at Miami Softball Stadium, as the Governors closed out their stay at the Miami Invitational with a 5-2 win.

Kacy Acree opened the inning for the Govs (15-13) with a single but was erased on a fielder’s choice on a bunt attempt by Morgan Rackel.

Tennessee Vols unable to get going against Auburn in SEC Tournament Championship

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsNashville, TN – The No. 8 Tennessee Vols couldn’t match No. 22 Auburn hot shooting, falling, 84-64, in the SEC Tournament Championship Game on Sunday at Bridgestone Arena.
 
The Vols (29-5) played one of their worst games of the season on the offensive end, turning the ball over 17 times that led to 21 points for Auburn. The Tigers (26-9) did what they do best and rained 3-pointers to keep the momentum in their favor, connecting on 15 long balls.
 
Tennessee’s offense went cold as ice in the first half, going on a seven-minute scoring drought and missing 10 consecutive shots. UT was up early on the Tigers with a 17-13 lead.

APSU SoftballOxford, OH – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team’s Morgan Rackel hurled her fourth shutout of the season, Saturday at the Miami Invitational, while Danielle Liermann became the program’s all-time leader in doubles and total extra-base hits, as the Govs defeated Dayton, 6-0, before falling late to Miami, 6-2, in the night cap.
