The Department of Defense announced today the deployment of the 1st Brigade Combat Team “Bastogne”, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), as part of the scheduled spring rotation of major units in Afghanistan.
Approximately 3,700 Soldiers will deploy as part of the United States’ commitment to maintain the level of forces necessary to provide sufficient military capability for the NATO-International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to further improve security and stability operations. «Read the rest of this article»

 A 101st Airborne Division run kicks off the Week of the Eagles
Fort Campbell – The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) began “Week of the Eagles” with a division run at 6:30 a.m. today. More than 18,000 Soldiers from the 101st and additional units stationed at Fort Campbell ran together in a mass formation stretching around a more than four-mile loop laid out for the event.
Maj. Gen. John F. Campbell, division commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Vince Camacho, division command sergeant major, led the run from the division headquarters. This marks Campbell’s first division run since taking command on July 31. «Read the rest of this article»

Fort Campbell – The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell will honor veterans from the Vietnam conflict during multiple “Welcome Home Ceremonies” at Hangar 3 Sunday as part of the Week of the Eagles festivities on Sunday.
The event is designed to be an official welcome home for Vietnam Veterans who never got the recognition and welcome home that every member of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) receives when they return from the Global War on Terrorism. Veterans will stand in formation and march into the hangar where they will be greeted by Family and friends.  Pfc. Marshall G. Montelus
FORT CAMPBELL, Ky., August 5, 2009 – A Fort Campbell Soldier died Monday after finishing an Army Physical Fitness Test with his unit. Pfc. Marshall G. Montelus, 24, of Rochester, N.Y., was an automated logistical specialist assigned to B Company, 801st Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team. He originally entered the Army in March 2004 and arrived at Fort Campbell in November 2004
Montelus’ awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; NATO Medal; Overseas Service Ribbon; Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver – Wheeled Vehicles; and Weapons Qualification, M4, expert.
Montelus is survived by his mother, Irma Hilaire, of Brooklyn, N.Y.
The incident is under investigation.

FORT CAMPBELL – The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) has a new commanding general. Maj. Gen. Jeffrey J. Schloesser relinquished command to Maj. Gen. John F. Campbell at a ceremony today. Campbell came to the 101st from the Pentagon, where he served as the deputy director for regional operations, J-3, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. He has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Campbell’s former command assignments include 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, and the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Join us Saturday, August 8 for another Concert in the Park. Concerts in the Park is part of the Parks After Dark series presented this summer by the City of Clarksville. The summer series wraps up this month with this being the last concert of the season. As always, the concert is from 6- 8p.m. and is free of charge at McGregor Park.

FORT CAMPBELL – The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) will receive a new commander Friday during a ceremony at 9 a.m. on the division parade field when Maj. Gen. Jeffrey J. Schloesser relinquishes command to Maj. Gen. John F. Campbell.
Schloesser has been commander of the Screaming Eagles since 2006. During his tenure, the division deployed units to both Iraq and Afghanistan simultaneously. The division headquarters, under Schloesser’s command, also served as the headquarters for U.S. and NATO operations in Regional Command-East Afghanistan from April 2008 to June 2009. «Read the rest of this article»

FORT CAMPBELL – Twenty-five Fort Campbell Soldiers and family members will join The President of the United States during the July 4 celebration on the South Lawn of the White House.
Members of 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Division Special Troops Battalion and the Warrior Transition Unit will attend the event.
Soldiers and family members will spend Independence Day with the President and join him during the White House Salute to the Military. The event recognizes our troops and celebrates their accomplishments as
well as those who support their service and sacrifice.

FORT CAMPBELL – Residents around Fort Campbell should expect three consecutive blasts in quick succession around noon June 23.
The blasts will be part of a week-long training session conducted on the installation.
