Now that Thanksgiving meals are behind us, you might want to consider visiting our community centers weight and fitness rooms before the Christmas parties begin. Each community center is filled with treadmills, a Universal Machine, which is various weight stations, and Racquetball Courts to help ward off those extra pounds during the holidays.

Burt Cobb Community center, one of three centers serving Clarksville families and youth

Burt Cobb Community Center at 1011 Franklin Street has three treadmills and the Aerodyne Bike. The Crow Community Center at 211 Richview Road has an Elliptical Running Machine and an Aerodyne Bike.

If weight training or exercise machines are not your cup of cheer, visit the Kleeman Community Center at 166 Cunningham Lane where they have Wallyball equipment that can be rented out for $4.00 an hour. This should give an entire family the workout and competitive fun they are looking for. Racquetball Courts can be reserved Monday through Saturday during normal center hours for $3.00 per hour.

All community centers require a $5.00 annual center ID card for participation, but that’s not bad considering how much is spent going on a diet. So beat the holiday diet blues ahead of schedule and come join our community centers for a healthier lifestyle this season.

Winter Gym hours are featured at Byrns-Darden Elementary School from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Monday’s, Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s. The program is for those who want to use the gym for open play basketball this season. Those interested in participating should use the entrance on Peacher’s Mill Road to access the gymnasium each night.

The Kids on Crafts program will meet tomorrow at Burt-Cobb Community Center next from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. This week’s project will be using colored pencils to make Christmas Cards for the wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. and for those at Fort Campbell. The program is free and open to children ages 7 to 15 with a $5.00 center ID Card. Adults who want to participate are welcome to join us.

Also at Burt-Cobb, the after school full court Youth Basketball for ages 12-16 years has begun and will be featured on Mondays from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. The staff will assist in the games and officiating. Students will be placed on teams each week.

If you missed the Christmas on the Cumberland opening ceremony, don’t sweat it. The event is open nightly from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday through January 1st. Santa is scheduled to make another appearance this coming Friday, December 5th, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visit www.christmasonthecumberland.com for detailed information on this year’s holiday weekend lineup.

Don’t forget to visit downtown Clarksville for Downtown for the Holidays, December 6th, an event that will feature the beautifully decorated streets right in the heart of our City. The Jingle Bell Jog will start at 9 a.m. and the 49th Annual Clarksville Christmas Parade will kick off at 5 p.m. Family entertainment and holiday singing will follow immediately after the parade. And you don’t want to miss seeing school children singing their carols at the Clarksville Montgomery County Court House. Local downtown businesses will have extended shopping hours that evening for lots of great holiday shopping.
