#6 Tennessee Lady Vols lose to #5 Notre Dame, 84-70

UT Lady VolsNotre Dame, INMeme Jackson scored 18 points, but it was not enough as No. 5/5 Notre Dame overcame a 23-point deficit to hand No. 6/7 Tennessee its second loss of the season, 84-70, on Thursday night at Purcell Pavilion.

After taking a 60-50 lead into the fourth quarter, the Lady Vols (16-2, 4-1 SEC) fell into an offensive slump, and were outscored 34-10 to close the game. The Fighting Irish (17-2, 5-1 ACC) were efficient throughout the second half, shooting 66 percent from 3-point range and committing just three turnovers.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN No. 6/7 Tennessee (16-1, 4-1 SEC) makes one final stop on a challenging three-game road swing with a Thursday night, January 18th visit to Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center to take on No. 5/5 Notre Dame (16-2, 5-1 ACC). The Lady Vols’ final regular-season non-conference contest is slated to tip at 6:02pm CT.

This marks the 28th meeting between these schools in women’s basketball, with UT holding a 21-6 advantage. The Lady Vols will try to halt a three-game road losing skid in the series and end a 17-game homecourt winning streak by the Irish. A year ago, Tennessee ended a six-game Notre Dame series win streak, defeating the (then) No. 6/6 Fighting Irish, 71-69, at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville on a last second jumper by Jaime Nared.

The game will tip at 12:30pm and will be televised live on ESPN2 and streamed online via WatchESPN

Tennessee (8-2) enters the matchup with a pair of victories over teams from the ACC (NC State, 67-58, and Georgia Tech, 77-70) already this season. UT fell to No. 7 North Carolina in a hard-fought battle in Thompson-Boling Arena last Sunday, marking the Vols’ first home loss of the year. On Wednesday, Tennessee bounced back to hold off a Furman team riding a five-game winning streak, 66-61.

Tennessee Vols roll over Mercer 84-60

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN Grant Williams scored 21 points and James Daniel III dished out 10 assists to lead Tennessee to an 84-60 victory over Mercer on Wednesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.
 
In their first game since returning from the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, the Vols (5-1) used a strong defensive effort to force 20 turnovers and hold the Bears (5-3) to a season-low in points.
 
The first half was highlighted by a balanced attack for Tennessee, as seven players recorded at least a point.

APSU Men's BasketballNashville, TN – For the first time since 1990, Austin Peay State University men’s basketball debuted under new leadership, squaring off against Vanderbilt under the watchful eye of first-year head coach Matt Figger.

Although Austin Peay battled until the final whistle and pushed Vanderbilt to the limit, playing the Commodores within single digits for the early portion of the second half, a late Vanderbilt shooting barrage conspired to down the Govs, 73-54, at Memorial Gymnasium.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 25/24 Tennessee will open its 2017 season on Monday, September 4th, 2017 against Georgia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

The game will feature an 7:00pm CT kickoff on ESPN with Rece Davis (play-by-play) and Kirk Herbstreit (analyst) in the booth and Maria Taylor reporting from the sidelines. Vol Network radio affiliates will have a live audio broadcast with Bob Kesling, Tim Priest and Brent Hubbs. Sirius and XM satellite radio will also carry the game on Channel 80.
