Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – When recent Austin Peay State University graduate baseball player Alex Robles was selected in the 30th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft on June 14th he joined an outstanding list of former APSU baseball players that have started their aspiring journeys to the big leagues with their names being called in the draft.

Drafted with the 886th overall pick, as a right-handed pitcher by the Minnesota Twins, Robles — who is from Tucson, AZ – became the 41st Governor to be drafted, since Tim Burns was drafted in 1972 by the California Angels.

APSU BaseballNew York, NY – Austin Peay State University baseball alumnus Alex Robles was selected in the 30th round of Major League Baseball’s Draft, Wednesday.

Robles, of Tucson, Arizona, was selected with the first pick of the 30th round (886th overall) by the Minnesota Twins. Drafted as a right-handed pitcher, he becomes the fifth Governors player selected in the MLB draft over the past two seasons and the 41st to be drafted since 1972.

APSU Baseball’s Parker Phillips becomes third Governor to earn NCBWA freshman honors

APSU BaseballLynchburg, VA – For the second time in five days, Austin Peay State University freshman catcher Parker Phillips has earned national recognition, with the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association naming him a Second-Team Freshman All-American, Monday.

Phillips becomes is just the third Austin Peay freshman to earn recognition from the NCBWA, joining catcher Matt Wollenzin (2011) and utility man Alex Robles (2014).

Instant Peay Play: APSU Govs see Athletic Department’s school year come to an end

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With baseball and track and field seeing their respective seasons come to an end this past weekend, Austin Peay State University not only saw its final spring semester sports come to an end, but also saw the end of its 2016-17 athletic calendar.

The Govs baseball team went 2-2 in the OVC Baseball Championship Tournament, its second straight postseason appearance under head coach Travis Janssen, to finish the season with a 28-30 record.

APSU Baseball’s Chase Hamilton hits two homers to help Govs beat Jacksonville State, 8-7

APSU BaseballOxford, AL – Austin Peay State University’s baseball right fielder Chase Hamilton hit two solo home runs, including a key eighth inning shot, to help the Governors hold on for an 8-7 victory against Jacksonville State in Game 5 of the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championship, Wednesday morning, at Choccolocco Park.

The No. 7 seeded Governors stayed alive in the tournament and will face No. 3 seed Belmont in a scheduled 7:30pm elimination contest later today.

Austin Peay State University Baseball falls to Morehead State in OVC Tournament

APSU BaseballOxford, AL – Austin Peay State University’s baseball third baseman Alex Robles went 4-for-4 and left fielder Cayce Bredlau hit a game-tying home run, but the Governors could not halt a late Morehead State charge and fell, 9-4, in Game 4 of the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championship, Wednesday, at Choccolocco Park.

Austin Peay (27-29), the seventh seed, suffered its first loss in the tournament and now will face No. 4 seed Jacksonville State in a 9:00am, Thursday elimination contest.

APSU BaseballBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University senior utility man Alex Robles has become the first player in Ohio Valley Conference history to receive All-OVC honors five times during their careers after he was named First-Team All-OVC as a utility player, Tuesday afternoon.

Robles, of Tucson, Arizona, was the only Governors player named to the two All-OVC squads. It is his fifth All-OVC honor in his four year career.

Parker Phillips’ grand slam powers APSU Baseball to OVC Tournament win over UT Martin

APSU BaseballOxford, AL – Austin Peay State University baseball redshirt freshman catcher Parker Phillips‘ first-inning grand slam catapulted the Governors to a 6-2 victory against UT martin in the opening game of the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championship, Tuesday night at Choccolocco Park.

With the win, Austin Peay (27-28) advances to the double elimination portion of the bracket and will face No. 2 seed Morehead State in a 7:00pm, Wednesday night.
