Montgomery County recipients of Governor’s Volunteer Stars Award Winners Announced

 

Tennessee VolunteerMontgomery County, TN – Congratulations go to Alexis Mihalinec and Susan and Bobby Powers for being selected the Montgomery County recipients for the 2012 Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards.

Mihalinec, the Montgomery County Youth winner, is a 14 year old with a very giving heart. She dedicates her time to help low income families of Montgomery County that need a hand up with school supplies to help start the school year off right!

Be a part of this remarkable initiative to honor 9/11 victims, survivors and those who rose up in service in response the attacks by volunteering in your community. Volunteers and volunteer leaders are needed to help with various local service activities.

Montgomery County announces Volunteer Stars Award Recipients

 

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – Congratulations go to H. Lynn Hunter and Trinity Beard for being selected the Montgomery County recipients for the 2011 Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards.

Hunter and Beard will be recognized, along with other recipients from across the state, at a reception in Nashville on February 27th and both will be honored tonight during the February Montgomery County commission meeting with proclamations from County Mayor Carolyn Bowers.

AmeriCorps Stories: How 9/11 Changed My Life

 

Corporation for National and Community ServiceWashington D.C. – In the aftermath of the tragedy that struck America a decade ago, hundreds of AmeriCorps members stepped forward to help, offering assistance to the injured, serving as family caseworkers, and helping those displaced from Ground Zero find housing and other services. For many, their service was a life-changing experience, inspiring them to pursue lives of public service.

All across the country, the events of that day and the heroism of our first responders inspired thousands of then-teenagers and 20-somethings to give back. Many voluntarily enlisted during wartime and knowingly risked their lives to protect our country. Others chose to serve their country through AmeriCorps, meeting vital community needs in education, health, disaster relief, and other areas. Corporation for National and Community ServiceWashington, D.C. – On the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks, hundreds of thousands of Americans will participate in service and remembrance activities to pay tribute to 9/11 victims and heroes and rekindle the spirit of unity and compassion that followed the attacks.

Nominations for the Third Annual Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards are now being accepted within Montgomery County. The awards will celebrate the efforts of volunteers who strive to improve their communities through service.

One youth and one adult will be selected in Montgomery County to receive this prestigious award.
