Nashville, TN – Playing singles first seemed to work well for Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team at Belmont, Saturday. With a threat of inclement weather in the air, the Lady Govs took their season’s first Ohio Valley Conference win, dropping the Bruins 4-2.

APSU Lady Govs Tennis’ Ornella Di Salvo gets first OVC Player of the Week honor

Brentwood, TN – Junior Ornella Di Salvo, of the Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team, has been named the first Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the 2014 season, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Despite not playing a match last week, Di Salvo earns the honor based on her previous week’s body of work, when she went 2-0 at No. 2 singles.

Clarksville, TN – After a dynamic first week in a Governors uniform, freshman utility man Ridge Smith, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named this week’s Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Smith hit .600 (6-for-10) in his first weekend series against Iowa, smacking four doubles, driving in seven runs and scoring six as the Govs went 1-2 against the visiting Hawkeyes. His .600/1.000/.643 slash-line (average/slugging/on-base percentage) leads the OVC in each category after the first weekend of play.
