APSU supporters Jeff Bibb and Frank Lott honored with Tennessee Board of Regents’ Chancellor Award

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Last month, during Austin Peay State University’s 58th Annual Tower Club Dinner Meeting, longtime APSU supporters Jeff Bibb and Frank Lott were honored with the Tennessee Board of Regents’ 2016 Chancellor Award for Excellence in Philanthropy.

“For nearly two decades, Jeff Bibb and Frank Lott have quietly supported Austin Peay State University, with many in the community not realizing how vital they are to this institution,” TBR Chancellor David Gregory said. “Austin Peay is a stronger institution because of their support and generosity, and their creative talents will allow this institution to attract new students and connect with successful alumni in the coming years.”

APSU Baseball announces 16-man incoming class

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A 16-man recruiting class will join Austin Peay State University’s baseball team for the 2017 season, the team announced in conjunction with the opening day of classes, Monday.

The Governors incoming class will be its largest in program history – topping the 14 added to the roster for the 2014 season.

Ten APSU Governors conclude successful Summer Baseball Slate

The last to finish their experiences were outfielder Chase Hamilton and relief pitcher Brett Newberg, who concluded their action in the Northwoods League’s playoff.

APSU Athletics Department sports New Faces

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – A new academic year brings a host of new faces into the Austin Peay State University athletics family, with an ever-expanding department bringing an increased demand for talented staff.

Two additions were made in the academic services area. Ryan Combs, recently of Belmont, joins the department as an academic coordinator working alongside Austin Peay’s soccer, baseball and women’s basketball programs. In addition, Kara Carpenter joins the department as an advisor to the football team after spending last season at Texas A&M-Commerce. She graduated from Western Carolina in 2013.

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head baseball coach Travis Janssen filled out his coaching staff for the 2016-17 season, hiring Brandon Romans as an assistant coach and bringing David Weber on board as a volunteer assistant coach.

Romans will be the Governors recruiting coordinator, hitting and outfield coach. Weber will assist with the Govs catchers, team and camp operations.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Fifteen Austin Peay State University student-athletes, alumni and staff participated in Friday’s Summer Commencement exercises at the Dunn Center, closing out the 2015-16 academic year and raising Austin Peay’s total tally of 2015-16 graduates to 75.

Dunbar informed Austin Peay baseball head coach Travis Janssen of his decision Thursday morning.

Austin Peay State University coach Dave Loos undergoes successful surgery to remove Tumor

APSU Men's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Dave Loos, Austin Peay State University’s longtime basketball coach, recently underwent surgery to successfully remove a malignant tumor.

“Our thoughts and concerns right now are for the health and well-being of Coach Loos,” APSU Athletics Director Ryan Ivey said. “We look forward to welcoming him back when he has made a full recovery.”

Instant Peay Play: Former APSU Baseball Govs settling in to pro careers

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Making the transition from college to professional baseball happens quickly, just ask former Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball players Ridge Smith, Logan Gray, Garrett Copeland and Jared Carkuff, who in a little less than 40 days ago were playing college baseball and now are settling into their pro careers.

Ridge Smith, a catcher, was drafted in the 12th round of the MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays organization and was assigned to the Bluefield (WV) Blue Jays of the Rookie Appalachian League.

Instant Peay Play: Former APSU Baseball Gov part of historic mark for minor league team

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Ryne Harper, who was a member of the Austin Peay State University baseball team from 2008-11 and current member of the Jackson (TN) Generals, was a part of a history-making first half for the franchise.

The 6-foot-3, right-handed, Clarksville native is a middle reliever and has been an important cog for the Generals, the Double A minor league farm team for the Seattle Mariners, who set a club record with 46 wins in their season’s first half.
