APSU Men’s Basketball signs point guard Dayton Gumm

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball head coach Matt Figger has mined another gem from nearby Bowling Green, Kentucky with the addition of Dayton Gumm, a guard from Warren Central High School by way of 22 Feet Academy, where he did a year of post-graduate work.

A 6-2 guard, Gumm is the second Bowling Green native to come aboard with this signing class, joining Terry Taylor from nearby Bowling Green High School.

APSU Athletes post fourth-best semester GPA in department history

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Twelve Austin Peay State University athletics’ teams posted 3.0 grade point averages during the spring semester marking the fourth-best GPA in department history.

The women’s tennis program led the way with a 3.892 mark, placing all seven team members on the Dean’s List. The rest of the top-five included women’s cross country (3.605), women’s golf (3.530), dance team (3.378) and women’s soccer (3.355).

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Another long, athletic wing will don an Austin Peay State University men’s basketball uniform this winter as Eric McCollum becomes the fourth Governor added under new head coach Matt Figger.

A 6-8 transfer from Navarro College, McCollum averaged 9.6 points and 9.2 rebounds on 56.4 percent shooting a year ago as the Bulldogs advanced to the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament.

APSU Basketball coach Matt Figger adds guard Deyshawn Martin for 2017-2018 season

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball head coach Matt Figger has picked up his third spring commitment from Chipola College guard Deyshawn Martin.

A one-year contributor for the Indians after transferring from Community College of Beaver County (Pennsylvania), Martin started 20 of 26 contests during his sophomore campaign, averaging 9.6 points on 60.5 percent shooting and chipping in 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest to help Chipola post a 22-8 mark. His shooting percentage ranked 44th across all divisions in the NJCAA.

Nine APSU Governors squads post best-ever NCAA APR number

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Nine of Austin Peay State University’s 14 intercollegiate athletic teams posted their best-ever multi-year Academic Progress Rate in the most recent release NCAA’s APR Report, Wednesday.

The NCAA released the complete four-year APR rates for each of Austin Peay’s 14 teams – women’s indoor and outdoor track and field were combined into one sport-group beginning with this year’s data.

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball head coach Matt Figger has announced that Dalonte Hill and Ricky Cabrera will join his coaching staff.

Hill is a former assistant at Maryland who also served on staff with Figger at Kansas State, while Cabrera comes to Clarksville from Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee Tech, where he had been on staff since 2012-13.

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – He hasn’t been on the job long, but new Austin Peay State University head men’s basketball coach Matt Figger has already added two signees to the Governors ranks, with Ivan Cucak and Ed Stephens set to join APSU in the fall.

“I’m trying to build a team to immediately compete,” Figger said. “Any team with good point guard play and a guy to throw inside two are big-time pieces you need in college basketball.”

APSU Basketball Alumni Tiasha Gray signs multi-year pro contract in Israel

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – After an impressive debut season overseas in Sweden, former Austin Peay State University women’s basketball great Tiasha Gray has signed a professional deal in Israel’s top league.

Gray will suit up for Bnot Hertzeliya over the next three seasons, with team options for 2018-19 and 2019-20.

Last October, the Clarksville native inked a deal with Swedish club Mark Basket where she went on to lead the league in scoring at 24.3 points per game and steals with 3.6.
