APSU Women’s Basketball signs Three Players for 2017

APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team announced Thursday the addition of three players – Brandi Ferby, Bri Ferby and Jemiah Harrison – who signed National Letters of Intent during the spring signing period.

The trio joins Michaela Campbell, Myah LeFlore and Kelen Kenol to make up a six member 2017 recruiting class, the second under head coach David Midlick.

Austin Peay State University introduces Matt Figger as APSU Men’s Basketball head coach

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics held a press conference Thursday morning to introduce its next head men’s basketball coach for the first time since 1990.

Matt Figger, who served as Frank Martin’s recruiting coordinator and assistant coach from his tenure at Kansas State through this year’s Final Four run with South Carolina, was announced as the 12th head coach in program history, taking over for Dave Loos, who retired in March after 27 years at the helm.

Austin Peay to introduce Matt Figger as APSU Men’s Basketball’s 12th Head Coach

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics will hold an 11:00am, Thursday, press conference to introduce Matt Figger as the 12th head men’s basketball coach in program history.

Figger comes to Austin Peay on the heels of a whirlwind Final Four run as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator under Frank Martin at South Carolina. The Gamecocks were the East Region champion, taking down Marquette, Duke, Baylor and Florida on the way to Phoenix.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Figger and his family to APSU,” said Austin Peay athletics director Ryan Ivey. “This is an exciting and unprecedented time for Governors basketball.”

APSU Women’s Basketball earns OVC Team Sportsmanship Award

APSU Women's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityBrentwood, TN – For the first time since the 2013-14 season, the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team earned the Ohio Valley Conference Team Sportsmanship Award.

On Tuesday the conference office announced the recipients of the 2016-17 accolades for men’s and women’s basketball. Belmont received the honor on the men’s side.

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan called on Clarksvillians to join her in honoring Coach Dave Loos, who retired Monday after 27 years as the men’s basketball coach at Austin Peay State University.

“Coach Loos gave his all to APSU over a long and successful career, and he was a great ambassador for the City of Clarksville,” Mayor McMillan said. “He was the undisputed Dean of Ohio Valley Conference coaches, and had great success on the court, with more than 500 victories. We wish him a long and happy retirement.”

After 27 years on the sidelines, Dave Loos has called it a career as Austin Peay men’s basketball coach, bringing to an end a tenure marked by integrity, ingenuity and achievement.

“The takeaway for me today is how proud I am of the things we accomplished,” Loos said during Monday’s press conference. “The thing I’m celebrating is that we helped make a lot of young people better. We helped them better themselves in the classroom. The game-changer is a college degree, and that’s the thing we really emphasized—getting the diploma and growing as a person.”

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will be holding a press conference March 6th at the Dunn Center – on the court that bears his name — to not only announce the retirement of long-time head men’s basketball coach Dave Loos, but to also celebrate one of the greatest legacy’s any coach at any Ohio Valley Conference institution.

For the last 27 years, Loos has patrolled the sidelines of basketball courts in the OVC accumulating an all-time conference best 421 victories, over 100 wins more than the prior all-time win’s leader Cal Luther – who finished with 319 victories in 1999.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN –  Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team senior center Tearra Banks has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Banks led Austin Peay to a pair of victories to clinch an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament berth, averaging 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds against UT Martin and Southeast Missouri—she hit 59.1 percent (13-for-22) from the floor and tallied two blocks during the week, placing her among the top-10 in APSU history. She capped the regular season with a 21-point, 13-rebound effort at Southeast Missouri.

APSU Women's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityNashville, TN – The 2016-17 season came to an end for Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team after a 59-43 loss to UT Martin, Thursday, in the Municipal Auditorium.

The Governors finish the season with a 14-16 record – the most wins since 2010-11.
