APSU Basketball Season-ticket structure announced for 2017-18

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics has announced its ticketing structure for the 2017-18 season for men and women’s basketball.

Season ticket prices for the upcoming 20-date, 32-game home slate will vary depending upon the Governors Club membership level requested; the higher level of Governors Club membership, the greater the discount that will be applied for season tickets.

Included in the season ticket plan are 17 men’s games and 15 women’s contests.

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Another smooth guard from Spain has been added to the revamped Austin Peay State University men’s basketball roster, with Joan Bernacer set to suit up for the Govs under first-year head coach Matt Figger.

A 6-5, 191-pound guard, Bernacer averaged 10.7 points and 4.5 rebounds for Olivar Zaragoza’s club team last season in the EBA Stage One, Spain’s amateur fourth tier level. He was Olivar’s third-leading scorer in his third season with the club.

APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – A backloaded nonconference schedule, a 15-game home slate and an 18-game marathon Ohio Valley Conference slate all highlight the 2017-18 Austin Peay State University women’s basketball schedule, released Monday.

Austin Peay opens its 2017-18 slate on the road with a November 11th contest in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to face Butler for the first time since 2004.

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Two game-changing Spanish guards joined Austin Peay State University men’s basketball this week and will contribute right away in Matt Figger‘s first season at the helm.

Acoydan McCarthy, a 6-6 guard, comes to Clarksville with an exceptional pedigree after playing for Spain’s national team and Real Madrid’s club team.

Cole, a Monmouth, Illinois native, served as the Governors graduate assistant last season.

Former APSU Basketball great Tearra Banks signs to play in Israel professionally

 

Slan Sports ManagementToronto, Canada – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Tearra Banks has signed her first professional contract with Bnot Hertzeliya in Israel’s Division 1.

Banks, a 6’3” center, is coming off of a four-year collegiate career with the Austin Peay State Lady Govs. This past season, Banks was named Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Player of the Year. She was second in the OVC in scoring with 19.0 points per game and first in rebounding with 8.0 rebounds per game.

Banks was also 13th in the NCAA and second in the conference in field goal percentage at 59.9%.

APSU Basketball adds forward Averyl Ugba to 2017-2018 squad

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head men’s basketball coach Matt Figger has added another transfer with Division I experience, bringing 2017 first-team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference honoree Averyl Ugba into the fold.

Ugba was one of the SWAC’s dominant talents a year ago for Grambling State, nearly averaging a double-double for the season with 13.0 ppg to go along with a league-best 9.7 rebounds per contest.

APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team will have two more fresh faces when classes start at month’s end as Alecia Gulledge, of Bolingbrook, Illinois, and Gabby Gregory, who is originally from Irving, Texas, have signed scholarships to close the 2017-18 recruiting period.

Gulledge, a 5-10 forward, comes to Clarksville after playing two seasons for head coach Mike Helmer at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors shine in classroom during past school year

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – When the Ohio Valley Conference announced its year-end totals for academic excellence among its member schools, Austin Peay State University’s student athletes again proved to be among the best in the OVC.

First, the OVC announced that among all the conference sponsored sports 221 total student athletes earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for the 2016-17 school year.

The OVC Academic Medal of Honor is given to the student athletes who post the highest grade-point average in each sport, which this year required a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the year.
