APSU Men’s Basketball accepts CIT bid, hosts opening-round game March 15th

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team has accepted a bid to the CollegeInsider.com postseason basketball tournament and will host a first-round game in the Dunn Center, 7:00pm, March 15th, against an opponent to be determined.

The game guarantees at least one more home outing for seniors Averyl Ugba, Tre’ Ivory and Ed Stephens, and a chance for Austin Peay fans to see Terry Taylor, Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, in the Dunn Center at least once more in the 2017-18 campaign, which saw the Govs claim a third-place league finish and advance to the OVC Tournament semifinals.

APSU Basketball falls to Belmont in OVC Tournament semifinals

APSU Men's BasketballEvansville, IN – Monstrous performances from senior Averyl Ugba and freshman Terry Taylor simply could not offset a white-hot shooting performance from Belmont, which brought Austin Peay’s stay in the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament to an end in the semifinals with a 94-79 defeat.

The Govs put the final touches to the OVC slate by proving wrong every doubter. Austin Peay, picked to finish 11th in the preseason coaches poll and dead last by the media, instead turned in an 18-14 record, finishing third in the regular season and making its second appearance in the conference tournament semifinals in the last three seasons.

APSU Basketball rallies to defeat Eastern Illinois 73-66 in the OVC Tournament

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – A dominant second-half effort lifted Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team to a 73-66 win against Eastern Illinois to advance the third-seeded Governors to the semifinals of the 2017-18 Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The victory pushes the Govs onward to Friday’s OVC semifinals, where they will face second-seeded Belmont in the 9:00pm contest.

APSU Women's BasketballEvansville, IN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team fell to SIU Edwardsville in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, Thursday.

The Govs came off a dominant performance against Murray State on senior night, but could not continue the offensive performance early against the Cougars.

APSU Basketball’s Matt Figger named OVC Coach of the Year

APSU Men's BasketballBrentwood, TN – First-year head coach Matt Figger and the dynamic low-post duo of senior Averyl Ugba and freshman Terry Taylor are all new to the Ohio Valley Conference, but they have left an indelible impact on the league.

Tuesday, Figger was named OVC Coach of the Year, while Taylor earned Freshman of the Year honors. Taylor and Ugba, the graduate transfer from Grambling State, both were named First-Team All-OVC and to the All-Newcomer team via a vote of the league coaches and sports information directors.
