Thanks to the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, the Office of Advancement and the Tennessee Theatre Association, from October 11th-November 6th, 2018 the department welcomed a nationally recognized choreographer, a Tony Award-winner, the Phantom of the Opera and much more.

Austin Peay State University, Chautauqua partner to award student residencies at New York art institution

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Starting next year, one or two Austin Peay State University (APSU) art students will spend each summer at the Visual Arts at Chautauqua Institution in New York, immersed in nine weeks of classes, workshops and one-on-one time with art mentors.

And they won’t have to pay a dime.

“Sharon Louden’s visit to Austin Peay will be a special one,” Michael Dickins, gallery director for The New Gallery, said.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council to honor three Clarksvillians November 13th

Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – Three Clarksvillians will be honored this Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council for their achievements in art and in preserving our heritage.

Ceramicists Ken and Melody Shipley will receive the Lifetime Achievement in Art award, and Dr. Minoa Uffelman, Austin Peay State University (APSU) history professor, will receive the Lifetime Achievement in Heritage award.

The awards ceremony will begin at 5:00pm at Emerald Hill on the Austin Peay campus.

APSU Theatre and Dance to present ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Department of Theatre and Dance will present “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” Thursday, November 15th, through Sunday, November 18th, 2018 at the Trahern Theatre on campus.

The show starts 7:30pm Thursday-Saturday, with matinee performances 2:00pm Saturday and Sunday. The production is sponsored by the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts.

Austin Peay State University hosts Molière lives! One-man show ‘Molière Than Thou’

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – A scurrilous rumor circulating for the last 300 or so years suggests that Molière is dead, the victim of a coughing seizure amid the performance of his final play, “The Imaginary Invalid.” Molière is alive, better than ever and performing under the name Timothy Mooney. Not only is Molière still alive, but, in “Molière Than Thou,” coming to Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) Department of Theatre and Dance at 6:00pm November 6th, 2018, he speaks English and is every bit as insightful, ribald, irreverent and enthusiastic as the first time around.

Estabrook is a multidisciplinary installation artist whose works explore the intersections of culture, identity and technology.

“Fortnite” animator Kaye Vassey visits with Austin Peay State University Art Students

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – “Fortnite” lead technical animator Kaye Vassey’s art origin story involves her grandfather’s tractor doodles and, of course, Bob Ross. “My grandfather was a World War II Marine Corps vet – full on Marine Corps tattoo on the arm, the South Pacific war horror stories, the whole thing,” Vassey recalled to an animation class at Austin Peay State University.

“But what he really wanted – his family were plumbers, so he became a plumber – was to be an artist.
