Coach Will Healy releases APSU Football’s Spring Schedule

APSU Football - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Beginning at 4:00pm, Thursday, February 9th, 2017 at Fortera Stadium, the Austin Peay State University football team will begin spring practice one month early this season in Will Healy‘s second year as head coach.

After opening spring camp on March 21st last year, the Governors coaching staff enters 2017 with a full year under their belt, allowing for a forward-thinking offseason plan.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Last year Austin Peay State University’s first-year head football coach Will Healy and his staff put together one of the best recruiting classes in the country and the way things are shaping up this coming Wednesday, February 1st, may see a second recruiting class that could rival it.

Healy’s first recruiting class was ranked 132 overall nationally among all NCAA Division I schools and fifth in the Football Championship Subdivision – not to mention No. 1 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Four inducted into APSU Athletics Hall of Fame Class Saturday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Four Austin Peay State University athletic legends were enshrined in the APSU Athletics Hall of Fame, Saturday, during a breakfast ceremony in the Dunn Center front lobby.

Chelsea Harris, the greatest women’s golfer in program history; Drake Reed, an all-time great who conquered the OVC during one of the most dominant eras of APSU basketball; and Ron Sebree, a vaunted lineman for the 1977 Ohio Valley Conference football team, were inducted along with the late Tom Lincoln, a star on the hardwood and the gridiron in the late 1940s, who was this year’s Honors category recipient.

They became the 115th, 116th, 117th and 118th members of the APSU Athletic Hall of Fame.

180 APSU Athletes earn Fall Semester Academic Honors

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – For the fourth consecutive semester, more than half of Austin Peay State University’s athletes received academic recognition following the recently concluded spring semester.

The department saw 180 athletes named to the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, each earning a minimum 3.0 grade-point average during the semester. That amounted to more than 53 percent of the department’s near-record 335 athletes earning academic recognition from the department.

It is the fourth consecutive semester the department has seen more than 50 percent of its athletes post a 3.0 or better GPA.

APSU to induct Four Governor greats into Athletics Hall of Fame

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will welcome four new inductees into its Athletics Hall of Fame, January 28th, 2017.

Drake Reed, a three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference basketball player and 2008 OVC Champion; Chelsea Harris, the 2010 OVC Women’s Golf Player of the Year and Austin Peay’s lone OVC Championship medalist; and Ron Sebree, one of the league’s most fearsome defensive linemen and a linchpin with the 1977 championship team have been selected for induction as part of the Austin Peay Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2017.

Instant Peay Play: APSU’s Will Healy confident in Govs Football future despite tough first season

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Will Healy ended his first season as head coach of the Austin Peay State University football team still looking for his first career win, but despite a winless season he is still confident in the program’s future.

The Govs finished the season amassing 5,382 all-purpose yards – a new school record – while going over 4,000 total offensive yards for the second time in school history, as well as scoring 51 total touchdowns – only the fourth time in school history the Govs have reached that milestone in a season.

Kentucky Wildcats outlasts APSU Governors Saturday

APSU Football - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Freshman running back Kentel Williams nabbed his second straight 200 plus all-purpose yard game and his fourth out of the last five games with a rushing touchdown – his score Saturday sparked a 13-0 lead for the Govs – in Austin Peay State’s 49-13 loss on the road at Southeastern Conference opponent Kentucky Saturday in Commonwealth Stadium.
