APSU Athletes post fourth-best semester GPA in department history

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Twelve Austin Peay State University athletics’ teams posted 3.0 grade point averages during the spring semester marking the fourth-best GPA in department history.

The women’s tennis program led the way with a 3.892 mark, placing all seven team members on the Dean’s List. The rest of the top-five included women’s cross country (3.605), women’s golf (3.530), dance team (3.378) and women’s soccer (3.355).

Almantas Ozelis named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Sophomore Almantas Ozelis, of the Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Ozelis was named adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after leading the Govs to an upset of Eastern Kentucky, which will be seeded second in this week’s OVC Men’s Tennis Tournament Championship. Ozelis and Aleh Drobysh teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, helping the Govs secure the doubles point, before rallying for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles against Ramon van Flymen.

Instant Peay Play: Spring postseason begins for APSU Governors this week

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With just 19 days left before it’s commencement ceremony, the first of Austin Peay State University’s spring sports teams will begin Ohio Valley Conference postseason championship play this week.

Overall, the OVC will host eight spring championships over the next 37 days, beginning this week with women’s golf on April 17th through April 19th and men’s and women’s tennis on April 21st through April 23rd.

Austin Peay State University Men’s Tennis beats Eastern Kentucky on Senior Day

APSU Men's TennisClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team picked up a big 4-3 win over Eastern Kentucky in an Ohio Valley Conference match Friday afternoon at the APSU Tennis Courts on Senior Day.

APSU won the doubles point when Aleh Drobysh and Almantas Ozelis won their No. 1 match 6-3 followed by a Manuel Montenegro and James Mitchell 6-4 win at No. 2 to clinch the point.

APSU Men's TennisCharleston, IL – The Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team took a 5-2 win on the road at Eastern Illinois Saturday afternoon.

APSU took the doubles point behind a 6-4 win from Aleh Drobysh and Almantas Ozelis at No. 1 and a 6-4 win from Alex Kartsonis and Chad Woodham at No. 3.

Playing down a man down, the Govs had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match allowing for TTU the advantage.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – If you’re a fan of Austin Peay State University athletics — or spring sports in general — this may be the week for you, as the Govs have several key home events coming up over the next seven days that should have huge Ohio Valley Conference implications for those teams.

For baseball (10-9, 4-2 OVC) , the Govs open the week with a couple of mid-week games (Tuesday-Wednesday) versus Arkansas State (11-8) — who have played 10 straight games at home – having not played away from Jonesboro, AR, since February 26th.
