Austin Peay Softball’s Autumn Hanners named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University softball team senior pitcher Autumn Hanners has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Hanners picked up two complete-game victories for the Govs last week, holding off Memphis in a 4-2 mid-week decision and tossing a shutout at Tennessee Tech during conference action.

The Orlando, FL native struck out three and allowed just one earned against the Tigers in the Governors first win against Memphis since 2007.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Women’s Tennis team faces big showdowns this week

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s women’s tennis team made a return to the Ohio Valley Conference postseason in 2016, after a two-year hiatus, but with the start of Ohio Valley Conference play in 2017 the Govs have come out of the gates quickly, but face some tough opponents this week as they try to remain undefeated in conference play.

The Govs enter the week with an overall record of 5-5, but more importantly a 3-0 mark in OVC play – one of three teams yet to drop a match in conference play this year – having opened OVC play with victories over Tennessee State (5-2) and Belmont (4-3) on the road and Jacksonville State (6-1) at home this past Saturday.

APSU Men's Tennis - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 match at home in the APSU Indoor Tennis Courts to Jacksonville State Saturday afternoon.

The Gamecocks took the doubles point after claiming wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.

After JSU conceded the No. 3 doubles match the Govs needed one win to secure the doubles point.

Playing down a man down, the Govs had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match allowing for TTU the advantage.

Austin Peay’s Lidia Yanes Garcia named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team sophomore Lidia Yanes Garcia has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Governors No. 1 enjoyed a sterling start to the Ohio Valley Conference season, going 2-0 to open league play against Tennessee State and Belmont, winning in straight sets against the Tigers Ani Popiashvili (6-2, 6-1) and the Bruins Laura Kent (6-3, 7-5). She teamed with Isabela Jovanovic for a 6-3 doubles win against Belmont’s Maddie Gilley and Abbie Mather as well.

Instant Peay Play: Busy and key home week for APSU Governors athletics

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – If you’re a fan of Austin Peay State University athletics — or spring sports in general — this may be the week for you, as the Govs have several key home events coming up over the next seven days that should have huge Ohio Valley Conference implications for those teams.

For baseball (10-9, 4-2 OVC) , the Govs open the week with a couple of mid-week games (Tuesday-Wednesday) versus Arkansas State (11-8) — who have played 10 straight games at home – having not played away from Jonesboro, AR, since February 26th.
