APSU Fall Fan Day set for August 30th

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will host its annual Fall Sports Fan Day, presented by Mountain Dew, 3:00pm-5:00pm, Sunday, August 30th, at Governors Stadium.

Fall Sports Fan Day is a free public event open that gives fans of all ages a chance to meet Governors players and coaches from football, volleyball, basketball, track and field/cross country and more.

Representatives from the Austin Peay cheer and dance teams—along with The Gov and Governor Peay X—will be on hand for photo opportunities, while all teams will be autographing posters and schedule cards, free for all fans at the event.

APSU Sports has 14 student-athletes receive OVC Academic Medal of Honor

Austin Peay State University Sports Information - , APSU, Governors, Govs, Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Fourteen Austin Peay State University student-athletes have earned the Ohio Valley Conference’s Academic Medal of Honor presented by Army ROTC, Monday, for their 2014-15 academic performance.

Austin Peay’s 14 honorees were among 199 OVC student-athletes recognized for their performance in the classroom. It was the second-highest total in the 22-year history of the award, trailing only the 212 winners in 2012-13. Every Academic Medal of Honor recipient for the 2014-15 academic year posted a perfect 4.0 GPA.

APSU has 79 Student-Athletes named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Seventy-nine Austin Peay State University student-athletes were named to the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Friday.

Austin Peay’s 79 honorees were among a record 1,279 student-athletes recognized for their performance in the classroom, topping last year’s 1,255 honorees.

“I want to congratulate each of the student-athletes who earned recognition on the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll,” said interim athletics director Cheryl Holt. “This award recognizes their hard work in the classroom throughout the year. I also want to thank our coaching staffs and academic support staff for their support of our student-athletes academic goals.”

APSU Lady Govs Basketball has Challenging 2015-2016 Schedule

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – An incredibly busy November will kick off Austin Peay State University women’s basketball head coach David Midlick‘s rookie campaign.

The newest head coach will jump headlong into the 2015-16 season with nine games in the season’s first 18 days. The slate begins with an opening-night contest, November 14th, against California at the Dunn Center – a team that reached the NCAA tournament’s second round last season.

Instant Peay Play: July opens with coaching carrousel still turning for APSU Govs, Lady Govs

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s athletic department looked like it was close to filling its’ final open positions, as the calendar neared July, but the last days of June into the first days of July saw two coaches leave the department.

The first was Lady Govs head softball coach Stephanie Paris, who informed interim athletics director Cheryl Holt on June 28th that she was stepping down from her position that she had held for three seasons to go into private industry.

APSU Athletics rebrands team Twitter accounts

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – In the waning hours of the 2014-15 season, Austin Peay State University’s athletics department worked to unify the department’s presence across all its Twitter platforms.

In all, Austin Peay athletics maintains 13 Twitter accounts. In addition to its primary account @LetsGoPeay, each of the department’s teams occupies its own space in the Twitter-verse. During the 2014-15 season, those accounts had varying names incorporating either the words Austin Peay or the university’s abbreviated name, APSU.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs Basketball rounds out coaching staff with Tessah Holt

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Tessah Holt will round out the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball coaching staff as its third assistant coach hire, Tuesday, by head coach David Midlick.

Holt, a Fayetteville, Georgia, native, recently completed her master’s degree at West Florida and was the women’s basketball graduate assistant in 2014-15.

APSU Lady Govs Basketball adds Chelsea Turner to Coaching Staff

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TNChelsea Turner will join the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball coaching staff, head coach David Midlick announced, Monday.

Turner, a native of Norman, Oklahoma, has spent the past two seasons at Tulsa as the program’s Director of Player Development and Team Manager.

APSU has 37 Student-Athletes achieve perfect 4.0 GPAs in Spring Semester

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – A department-record 37 student-athletes earned 4.0 grade-point averages during the Spring 2015 semester, the Austin Peay State University athletics department announced Wednesday.

Those 37 student-athletes were among 159 named to the Spring 2015 Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, representing more than half (52.3 percent) of the department’s student-athletes.

In addition, 83 student-athletes were named to Austin Peay’s dean’s list. The department finished both the spring semester and 2014-15 academic year with a 2.88 GPA.

Austin Peay State University Women’s Basketball adds Kayla Oxenrider to staff

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TNDavid Midlick, Austin Peay State University’s newest women’s basketball head coach, has hired Kayla Oxenrider as the first assistant coach on his staff, Monday.

Oxenrider, a native of Ashland, Pennsylvania, joins the Austin Peay women’s basketball program after one season as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at St. Francis University.
