Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – When Austin Peay State University announced the hiring of David Midlick as the new women’s basketball coach this past week that was the easy part of trying to return the Lady Govs back to being a force in the OVC …now the hard work begins.

Midlick inherits a team that has several solid to outstanding parts, but also a team that struggled to play up to their talent levels over extended games or even minutes in a single game.

David Midlick named new APSU Women’s Basketball Head Coach

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – A familiar face once again will grace the sidelines for Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team as David Midlick has been named the 10th head coach in program history.

Midlick, a former Govs and Lady Govs assistant  who led Delta State to consecutive Division II tournament appearances and mostly recently served as associate head coach at Memphis, was introduced at a press conference, Wednesday morning, in the Dunn Center.

Carrie Daniels selected as Clarksville Academy’s Girls Basketball Coach

 

Clarksville AcademyClarksville, TN – Clarksville Academy, a Pre-K through 12th grade private college preparatory school, is proud to announce Carrie Daniels as the new Head Girls Basketball Coach.

Jerri Bragg will continue to be a part of the girls basketball program and team serving in the capacity of Assistant Coach.  Bragg will also continue to be the Head Cross Country Coach.

Gray took home adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors after her 36-point, six-steal performance helped Austin Peay clinch the No. 7 seed on the regular season’s final day with a comeback win at Southeast Missouri, Saturday. She also was tabbed as CollegeSportsMadness.com OVC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her work against the Redhawks.

That’s all you can say about Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team’s nail-biting, back-and-forth, 72-69 opening-round loss to SIU Edwardsville in the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at Municipal Auditorium.

The Lady Govs jumped out to an early lead and battled 40 minutes in a game and a season that came down to the final possession.

APSU Lady Govs Basketball’s Tiasha Gray named OVC Defensive Player of the Year

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University junior guard Tiasha Gray has been named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-OVC by a vote of conference coaches and sports information, announced at Tuesday night’s Celebration of Women’s Basketball at the Sheraton Music City.

The Clarksville native becomes the first Austin Peay player to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors since the award’s inception following the 2008-09 season.

It took a full 40 minutes of effort and one of the better games of junior Tiasha Gray‘s career, but Austin Peay State University outlasted a spirited effort from Southeast Missouri to take a 72-67 victory home from the Show Me Center and with it, the No. 7 seed at next week’s Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Over the years there have been more than a few outstanding seasons put together by Austin Peay women’s basketball players, but the 2014-15 season being authored by point guard Tiasha Gray may go down as the best all-around season of all time.

With one final regular-season game remaining against Southeast Missouri — and what is almost an assured spot in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament – it’s not surprising the junior guard is leading the team in scoring, assists and steals, but also tops the team in rebounds.
