Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With the calendar changing from 2016 to 2017 this week let’s look back at the past 12 months and the accomplishments of the Governors Athletic Department this past year.

Things got rolling at the end of February when the men’s and women’s basketball teams both made the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Earning a stop in the tournament ended a three-year postseason drought for the men’s basketball team.

APSU Women's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Four players finished in double figures for the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, Saturday, helping put together another strong fourth quarter performance in an 80-71 loss to Belmont in the Dunn Center.

The Govs shot 42 percent or better in all four periods, including a 56 percent clip in the second quarter.

The Governors finished the nonconference schedule at 6-7, featuring key victories over Division I foes Arkansas State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, East Tennessee and Kennesaw State.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – If you’ve watched just about any NCAA Basketball regular-season or tournament game, or a few college football regular-season or bowl games over the past six or seven years you’ve probable the NCAA sponsored commercial spot that goes ‘over 400,000 student athletes and just about all of us will go pro in something other than sports’.

The Austin Peay State University Athletic Department has once again lived up to that NCAA standard with over 50 percent of its total number of student athletes recording at least a 3.0 grade-point average over this past fall semester.

180 APSU Athletes earn Fall Semester Academic Honors

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – For the fourth consecutive semester, more than half of Austin Peay State University’s athletes received academic recognition following the recently concluded spring semester.

The department saw 180 athletes named to the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, each earning a minimum 3.0 grade-point average during the semester. That amounted to more than 53 percent of the department’s near-record 335 athletes earning academic recognition from the department.

It is the fourth consecutive semester the department has seen more than 50 percent of its athletes post a 3.0 or better GPA.

APSU Athletes post 2.922 GPA for Fall Semester

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Eleven Austin Peay State University athletics’ teams surpassed the 3.0 grade point average during the fall semester highlighted by a department-high 3.875 GPA from the women’s tennis team as announced Tuesday.

Women’s golf followed women’s tennis with a 3.626 GPA, while volleyball posted a 3.453 GPA. Tennis also posted the top GPA in a men’s sport with a 3.286 GPA with men’s cross country and baseball following with 3.109 and 3.078 GPAs respectively.

APSU Govs falter at Ole Miss Rebels

APSU Women's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityOxford, MS – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team put up a strong defensive effort, Tuesday at the The Pavilion, but fell on the wrong end of a 66-38 decision at Ole Miss.

The Governors forced the Rebels to commit 14 turnovers and held them to under 50 percent shooting from the field (45.6).
