Lidia Yanes Garcia named Outstanding Female Athlete, Track’s Breigh Jones chosen Female Legends

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TNChris Horton, who punctuated a consummate basketball career with Ohio Valley Conference tournament most valuable player honors, has been chosen as both Austin Peay State University’s 2015-16 Outstanding Male Athlete as well as the Legends Award recipient as the most valuable male senior athlete.

Meanwhile, Lidia Yanes Garcia, who became the first women’s tennis player in OVC history to be named Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season, was named APSU’s Outstanding Female Athlete.

APSU Governors athletics teams continue NCAA APR improvement

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Ten of Austin Peay State University’s 14 intercollegiate athletic teams improved or posted a perfect score in the most recent release NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate, Wednesday.

Last week, the NCAA released its public recognition awards which are presented annually to those programs that post the top marks in their respective sport-groups. Austin Peay saw its women’s cross country, women’s golf and women’s volleyball teams recognized as each scored a perfect 1000 Academic Progress Rate.

APSU Ticket Office has OVC Tournament tickets on sale now

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Tickets for this week’s Ohio Valley Conference men and women’s basketball tournaments, to be played at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, are on sale in the Austin Peay State University Athletics ticket office.

All-session tickets are being sold for $60.00 while single-session tickets are being sold for $15.00 apiece for both the men and women.

The Governors, who are the No. 8 seed, will play #5 Tennessee Tech, 6:00pm, Wednesday night on the men’s side, with the winner advancing to play Tennessee State, 6:00pm, Thursday.

APSU Lady Govs beat Southeast Missouri 74-71

APSU Lady Govs - Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – On Senior Day, Tiasha Gray wasn’t going to allow Southeast Missouri to spoil the night for her and her four Austin Peay State University senior teammates.

Gray scored 27 points, including what proved to be the game-deciding three-point play with 1:31 left, to lead the Govs to a 74-71 victory against the feisty Redhawks in OVC action in Dave Aaron Arena.
