123 APSU Athletes named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – A program-record 123 Austin Peay State University student-athletes have been named to the 2017-18 Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, released Wednesday by the conference office.

Student-athletes must have achieved a 3.25 grade-point average, were eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chosen NCAA-sponsored sport(s) and used a season of competition in that sport.

APSU Cross County 2018 Schedule features Seven Meets

APSU Women's Track and FieldClarksville, TN – A seven-meet schedule awaits Austin Peay State University’s cross country teams when the season opens up in late August, head coach Doug Molnar announced Wednesday.

The season commences August 31st with a trip to Southern Illinois for the Carbondale Opener, SIU’s first attempt at a home meet since 2014.

Four Austin Peay State University sports teams earn NCAA public recognition for second-straight year

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – For a second consecutive year, four Austin Peay State University athletic teams earned one of the NCAA’s top academic honors, Wednesday, receiving a Public Recognition Award from the organization for maintaining a multiyear Academic Progress Rate among the top 10 percent of their respective sport.

“Our big picture goal is for each student-athlete to leave APSU with a championship ring on one hand and a diploma in the other and these recognitions show we are committed to that ideal” said Austin Peay Athletics Director Ryan Ivey. “I want to congratulate the coaches and student-athletes on those teams for receiving public recognition from the NCAA. I also want to thank our dedicated academic services staff and university faculty for their service.”

APSU Governors sit in Third for OVC Commissioner’s Cup after Fall Season

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – After a fall campaign that saw its volleyball team win a championship and its football team post its best finish in four decades, Austin Peay State University’s athletics department finished the fall season ranked third among all Ohio Valley Conference programs in the season-long Commissioner’s Cup competition.

The Governors third-place ranking after the fall season’s events – men and women’s cross country, women’s soccer, volleyball and football – was their best fall finish since the Commissioner’s Cup was reformatted in 2008-09. Austin Peay’s volleyball team received 13 points for claiming the both the regular-season and tournament titles. Meanwhile, the Governors football team scored 11 points for its second-place finish.

Austin Peay Volleyball won the OVC Regular Season title as well as the 2017 OVC Tournament Championship.

APSU Student-Athletes shape the future with Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Policies surrounding the well-being of a student-athletes is something often talked about, but not always implemented.

For senior softball player Alexis Hill, who has been the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee the past two years, promoting a healthy and manageable balance for athletes on the campus of Austin Peay has been a goal from the very beginning. This year, that goal has become a reality.

Hill, along with the SAAC secretary at APSU and women’s cross country/track athlete Sarah-Emily Woodward, recently attended the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Fall Meetings, in which athletes across the conference made their way to Nashville to discuss championship strategies, mental health, mentoring programs and much more with conference and national officials.

Austin Peay State University Cross Country has great showing at Belmont Opener

APSU Men's Cross CountryNashville, TN – A career-best showing by Nash Young paced Austin Peay State University men’s cross country in the Belmont Opener, while the upper class led the way for the Governors in the women’s event.

The men’s fourth-place finish was led by Young, a sophomore whose 16:01.21 mark was good for 18th place—both career-bests for the Hendersonville native.
