Seventeen APSU Athletes earn OVC Academic Medal of Honor

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Seventeen Austin Peay State University student-athletes have earned the Ohio Valley Conference’s Academic Medal of Honor for their performance in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year.

The 17 Governors recognized were among a group of 221 OVC student-athletes that will receive the Academic Medal of Honor, which recognizes those student-athletes that achieve the highest grade-point average in a league sponsored sport.

APSU Tennis squads earn team and individual academic honors from the ITA

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men and women’s tennis teams each earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team honors for the 2017 season, the ITA announced yesterday.

In addition, six players on the women’s team and four members of the men’s squad earned recognition as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

On the women’s side, the Governors were represented on the Scholar-Athlete roll by Ana Albertson, Brittney Covington, Isabela Jovanovic, Helena Kuppig, Claudia Yanes Garcia and Lidia Yanes Garcia.

APSU Athletes post fourth-best semester GPA in department history

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Twelve Austin Peay State University athletics’ teams posted 3.0 grade point averages during the spring semester marking the fourth-best GPA in department history.

The women’s tennis program led the way with a 3.892 mark, placing all seven team members on the Dean’s List. The rest of the top-five included women’s cross country (3.605), women’s golf (3.530), dance team (3.378) and women’s soccer (3.355).

Nine APSU Governors squads post best-ever NCAA APR number

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Nine of Austin Peay State University’s 14 intercollegiate athletic teams posted their best-ever multi-year Academic Progress Rate in the most recent release NCAA’s APR Report, Wednesday.

The NCAA released the complete four-year APR rates for each of Austin Peay’s 14 teams – women’s indoor and outdoor track and field were combined into one sport-group beginning with this year’s data.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Four Austin Peay State University athletic teams earned one of the NCAA’s top academic honors, Wednesday, receiving a Public Recognition Award from the organization for maintaining a multiyear Academic Progress Rate among the top 10 percent of their respective sport.

“One our department’s goals is to guide our athletes from their initial enrollment to receiving their diploma,” said Austin Peay Athletics Director Ryan Ivey.

Instant Peay Play: Spring postseason begins for APSU Governors this week

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With just 19 days left before it’s commencement ceremony, the first of Austin Peay State University’s spring sports teams will begin Ohio Valley Conference postseason championship play this week.

Overall, the OVC will host eight spring championships over the next 37 days, beginning this week with women’s golf on April 17th through April 19th and men’s and women’s tennis on April 21st through April 23rd.

APSU Women's TennisMurray, KY – The Austin Peay State University women’s tennis dropped a 4-3 match on the road at Murray State Wednesday afternoon.

The Racers won the doubles point after taking the No. 2 match 6-2 and the No. 3 match 6-3. The No. 1 match was left unfinished all knotted at four.

The Govs won the doubles point after Ana Albertson and Helena Kuppig won their No. 1 match 6-1, and Lidia Yanes Garcia and Isabela Jovanovic won their No. 3 match 6-3.
