APSU Student-Athletes shape the future with Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Policies surrounding the well-being of a student-athletes is something often talked about, but not always implemented.

For senior softball player Alexis Hill, who has been the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee the past two years, promoting a healthy and manageable balance for athletes on the campus of Austin Peay has been a goal from the very beginning. This year, that goal has become a reality.

Hill, along with the SAAC secretary at APSU and women’s cross country/track athlete Sarah-Emily Woodward, recently attended the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Fall Meetings, in which athletes across the conference made their way to Nashville to discuss championship strategies, mental health, mentoring programs and much more with conference and national officials.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors shine in classroom during past school year

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – When the Ohio Valley Conference announced its year-end totals for academic excellence among its member schools, Austin Peay State University’s student athletes again proved to be among the best in the OVC.

First, the OVC announced that among all the conference sponsored sports 221 total student athletes earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for the 2016-17 school year.

The OVC Academic Medal of Honor is given to the student athletes who post the highest grade-point average in each sport, which this year required a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the year.

88 APSU Governors named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Eighty-eight Austin Peay State University student-athletes were named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Friday, following the 2016-17 academic year.

Student-athletes must have achieved a 3.25 grade-point average, were eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chose NCAA-sponsored sport(s) and used a season of competition in that sport.

Austin Peay’s numbers include 22 athletes who competed in multiple sports during the season and are counted just once in the department’s total.

Seventeen APSU Athletes earn OVC Academic Medal of Honor

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Seventeen Austin Peay State University student-athletes have earned the Ohio Valley Conference’s Academic Medal of Honor for their performance in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year.

The 17 Governors recognized were among a group of 221 OVC student-athletes that will receive the Academic Medal of Honor, which recognizes those student-athletes that achieve the highest grade-point average in a league sponsored sport.

Austin Peay State University Track and Field receives OVC Team Sportsmanship Award

APSU Women's Track and FieldBrentwood, TN – For the seventh time in program history, Austin Peay State University track and field has earned the Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Track and Field Team Sportsmanship Award.

This is the second year in a row and fourth time in five seasons head coach Doug Molnar‘s squad has earned the outdoor honor. Austin Peay has earned five sportsmanship honors in outdoor competition and two more during indoor season.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Govs see Athletic Department’s school year come to an end

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With baseball and track and field seeing their respective seasons come to an end this past weekend, Austin Peay State University not only saw its final spring semester sports come to an end, but also saw the end of its 2016-17 athletic calendar.

The Govs baseball team went 2-2 in the OVC Baseball Championship Tournament, its second straight postseason appearance under head coach Travis Janssen, to finish the season with a 28-30 record.

Kaylnn Pitts closes APSU career at the NCAA East Preliminary

APSU Women's Track and FieldLexington, KY – The 2017 season came to an end for Kaylnn Pitts and Austin Peay State University track and field, Saturday, at the NCAA East Preliminary.

The Woonsocket, Rhode Island native finished 31st in a rain-delayed triple jump at the UK Track and Field Complex. After a first attempt that measured 12.22m (40-1.25), her 12.46m (40-10.50) mark on her second attempt would prove to be her best of the day. She capped her career with a final attempt that measured 12.44m (40-9.75).
