APSU Women's Volleyball - Austin Peay State UniversityJohnson City, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team could not get on track in its 2016 season opener, dropping a three-set decision (19-25, 10-25, 16-25) to host East Tennessee, Friday night at the DoubleTree Hotel Buccaneer Challenge in Brooks Gym.

Big East Tennessee (1-0) runs were the dominant story in all three sets.

OVC Preseason Poll ranks APSU Men’s Cross Country ninth, Women’s tenth

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – The Ohio Valley Conference released its 2016 men’s and women’s cross country predicted order of finish, Wednesday, voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Austin Peay State University men’s team was ranked tied for ninth in the poll, while the women were predicted to finish 10th. Last season, the men’s and women’s teams each had three top three finishes, including wins in the annual Austin Peay Cross Country Festival.

On the men’s side, the Govs will be led by three seniors with ample experience – Daniel Hamm, Kyle Harmon and Martin Rejman.

Experienced APSU Governor Soccer picked seventh in OVC preseason poll

APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team was predicted to finish tied for seventh place in the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll, as voted on by head coaches and sports information representatives.

Defending OVC regular season and tournament champion Murray State was the overwhelming pick to win the league, receiving 18 first-place votes.

APSU Lady Govs Basketball releases season Schedule

APSU Women's Basketball Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s basketball 2016-17 schedule , released Monday by second year head coach David Midlick highlighted by fifteen home games.

The home slate will be the Governors largest since the 1983-84 campaign – one of three seasons which featured a program-record 16 contests at the Dunn Center. In addition, Austin Peay will host seven meetings against nonconference opponents, the most since 1985-86.

Former APSU Track Star Breigh Jones an NCAA Woman of the Year conference honoree

APSU Women's Track and Field - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Former Austin Peay State University, APSU track and field standout Breigh Jones has been selected as one of two Ohio Valley Conference nominees for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

A Memphis native, Jones is one of 141 female student-athletes designated as a conference honoree, joining Belmont distance runner Hannah Wittman as an OVC nominee.  She is one of 54 Division I athletes up for the honor.

Instant Peay Play: Four names added to pantheon of APSU Baseball Draft Picks

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – This past week in New York City, Major League Baseball held its annual amateur draft with four Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball players having their names called, bring the all-time total to 40 players selected in the draft from APSU since the first Gov was drafted in 1972.

Juniors Ridge Smith (catcher), Logan Gray (third base), Garrett Copeland (second base) and senior pitcher Jared Carkuff were chosen in the 12th, 13th, 30th and 35th rounds, respectively, marking the second time Austin Peay had has as many as four players drafted at one time – and trailing only the 2013 MLB draft were the Govs had five players picked.

Four APSU Govs picked in Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player draft, Saturday

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityNew York, NY  – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team saw a quartet of student-athletes drafted in the third day of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft, Saturday.

Junior catcher Ridge Smith was the first Governors player to be drafted, hearing his named called in the 12th round (372nd pick) by the Toronto Blue Jays. Junior third baseman/outfielder Logan Gray went next with his hometown Kansas City Royals nabbing him in the 13th round (403rd pick).

APSU Baseball OVC Tournament game against Jacksonville State suspended

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityJackson, TN – Austin Peay State University’s second game of the Ohio Valley Conference baseball championship against Jacksonville State was suspended late Thursday night with the game tied 3-3 in the top of the fourth.

The game is scheduled to resume at 11:00am, Friday.
