APSU Women's Golf - Austin Peay State UniversityOwens Cross Roads, AL – After a spring that saw it continually build momentum, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will seeks its first Ohio Valley Conference title when it travels to The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove, Monday-Wednesday, to participate in the 2016 league championship.

The three-day, 54-hole tourney—18 holes per day—will be played on The Highlands Course, a challenging par-72, 6,050-yard Scottish Links layout.

APSU Governors Baseball power their way to a 6-3 win over Belmont Bruins

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityNashville, TN – A trio of home runs catapulted Austin Peay State University’s baseball team to a 6-3 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Belmont, Sunday afternoon at E.S. Rose Park. With the win, Austin Peay clinched the three-game series, 2-1, for its fourth straight OVC series victory.

Trailing by a single run after six innings, Austin Peay (21-13, 12-6 OVC) began its seventh-inning rally with one out on the board.

APSU Tennis Govs secure OVC Tournament berth with 4-3 win over Jacksonville State

APSU Men's Tennis - Austin Peay State UniversityJacksonville, AL – For the eighth consecutive season, Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team has gained entry to the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament following a 4-3 victory over Jacksonville State, Saturday, at the JSU Tennis Courts.

The Governors (7-10, 6-3 OVC) have now reached the six conference wins mark for the sixth-straight year.

APSU Governors Baseball slide past Belmont 6-5

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityNashville, TN – Pinch hitter Wesley Purcell led off the 10th inning with a single and later scored on an error, giving Austin Peay State University’s baseball team a 6-5 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Belmont, Saturday afternoon at E.S. Rose Park. The Governors leveled the three-game series, 1-1.

Austin Peay (20-13, 11-6 OVC) nearly had the go-ahead run in the ninth inning as it back-to-back batters earned one-out walks. However, they could cash in the free passes and saw reliever Jared Carkuff retire Belmont in order to force extra innings.

APSU Governors Baseball held scoreless by Belmont Bruins

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityNashville, TN – For the first time since March 2015, Austin Peay State University’s baseball team was shutout as Belmont starter Andrew Quillen tossed seven shutout innings in a 15-0 Ohio Valley Conference decision, Friday night at E.S. Rose Park.

Quillen stole the show from the game’s outset as he retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced, striking out eight.

Austin Peay names Savannah Amato APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Freshman pole vaulter Savannah Amato, of the Austin Peay State University track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Amato became just the third vaulter in Austin Peay history to hit 13 feet in the pole vault, hitting 4.01m (13’ 1.75”) to take fourth at the Hilltopper Relays.

After clearing her first two attempts at 3.41m and 3.56m with ease, Amato needed all three attempts at 3.71m before clearing the bar on her final vault. She broke her own personal best on her second attempt at 3.86m before entering Austin Peay lore on her final attempt at 4.01m.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Track and Field host APSU Invitation this weekend

APSU Women's Track and Field - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For the first time since hosting the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, Austin Peay State University’s track and field team will host a collegiate home meet with this weekend’s APSU Invitational.

The two-day meet is scheduled to begin 5:00pm, Friday, at Governors Stadium and continue 10:00am, Saturday.

APSU Lady Govs Soccer announces 2016 Schedule

APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer head coach Kelley Guth announced the team’s 2016 fall schedule, Wednesday, which features nine home matches at APSU Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

Following an exhibition contest at Georgia State (August 14th), the Govs officially open the regular season at UAB (August 19th) and Alabama State (August 21st).
