Annual Lyon County Between the Rivers Homecoming at Land Between the Lakes Announced

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Former residents of the area now known as Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will gather this fall for their annual Homecoming.

Traditional 1850’s Wedding Celebration Re-Created at The Homeplace in LBL

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Celebrate an 1850’s wedding at The Homeplace Living History Farm on Saturday, October 15th. The Homeplace is located in the TN portion of Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area.

The annual event brings to life an 1850’s wedding, including the customs, traditions, games, and festivities of the era with interpreters dressed in period clothing.  This is one of the living history farm’s most popular events during the year.  Visitors from throughout the region come to join the wedding re-creation of a typical couple from “between the rivers.”  «Read the rest of this article»

Annual Stewart County Between the Rivers Homecoming

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Former residents of the area now known as Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will gather again this Labor Day weekend for their annual Homecoming.

The yearly reunion for those from the Stewart County, TN portion of LBL provides a chance for former Between the Rivers residents to celebrate and reminisce. LBL Offers Programs on the Fall of Fort Henry and “Life Before the Civil War”

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will be hosting Civil War themed programs at The Homeplace, a living history farm on the Tennessee portion of LBL, Saturday, February 12 and 19 from 10:00am-3:00pm. These programs will be offered in addition to the popular Fort Henry Anniversary Walk to be held again on Saturday, February 5th, from 2:30pm-4:00pm.

In February of 1862, “Between the Rivers” was bracing for war. Confederate forces occupied Fort Henry with Federal forces moving up the Tennessee River.  Relive the events before and during the siege of Fort Henry on this free guided walk around the remnants of Fort Henry’s outer fortifications. Meet at Fort Henry Hiking Trail Parking Lot at 2:30pm on February 5th, dress for the weather, waterproof footgear recommended, and moderate walking required. African American Heritage Quilt Collaboration

 

Collaboration Between The Homeplace, Fort Donelson, & Quilters will Reveal African American Heritage

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Quilters from Tennessee and Kentucky will collaborate with The Homeplace, located in Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area, and Fort Donelson National Battlefield to design a series of quilts depicting the African American experience “Between the Rivers” (LBL), and the Civil War in Middle Tennessee. 

The project, which is being sponsored by The Homeplace, Fort Donelson National Battlefield, and the Emmanuel Family Life Center Quilting Guild of Clarksville, will begin with a panel discussion on African Americans at Fort Donelson, Fort Henry, and “Between the Rivers.”  Join us Saturday, November 20th, 2010, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Emmanuel Family Life Center, 303 Fairview Lane, Clarksville, Tennessee. «Read the rest of this article»
