Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Announces Next Clean Tennessee Energy Grant Cycle

Funding Helps Promote Energy Efficiency Projects, Benefiting the Environment and Bottom Line

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau today announced a second offering of the Clean Tennessee Energy Grants, totaling $2.25 million to fund energy efficiency projects for municipal governments, county governments, utility districts, and other similar entities across Tennessee.

Funding for the projects comes from an April 2011 Clean Air Act settlement with the Tennessee Valley Authority. Under the Consent Decree, Tennessee will receive $26.4 million over five years to fund clean air programs in the state (at approximately $5.25 million per year). As part of the grant program’s initial offering, a total of $5.3 million in Clean Energy Grants was awarded in 2012 to a variety of projects within state government, municipalities, utilities, state colleges and universities and communities throughout the state. «Read the rest of this article»

Public/Private Partnership Allows Purchase After Four Decades Managing Under Private Ownership

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau and Deputy Commissioner Brock Hill announced today that Virgin Falls State Natural Area in White County has been acquired by the state of Tennessee through the support of a number of private/public partnerships.

Virgin Falls has been under private ownership, but managed by the state as a natural area for nearly 40 years. Working closely with the Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation, the state of Tennessee was able to purchase the 1,551-acre parcel near Sparta through a combination of funds from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and private donations. «Read the rest of this article»

Veterans Day Designated a Free State Park Day for Tennessee Veterans, Including Complimentary Golfing and Night of Camping

Nashville, TN – Tennessee State Parks announced today its annual free state parks day for all Tennessee veterans on Monday, November 12th, offering one free night of camping and complimentary greens fees for 18 holes of golf with appropriate identification.

Passed by the Tennessee General Assembly in 2010, the policy calls for a yearly, special state parks day to honor Tennessee’s resident veterans.

Tennesse Governor Bill Haslam and Senator Lamar Alexander Name Rocky Fork as Proposed Site for Tennessee’s 55th State Park

Erwin, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau joined members of the Tennessee General Assembly, local elected officials and members of the community for a special ceremony announcing the future conveyance of more than 2,000 acres in the Rocky Fork area of Unicoi County, that will eventually become Tennessee’s 55th state park.

The property is part of the 10,000-acre tract acquired by The Conservation Fund and U.S. Forest Service in 2008, and will be conveyed to the state of Tennessee in the coming months.
