APSU Baseball gets 3-1 home win over Morehead State

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team junior starter Josh Rye took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and  the Governors notched a come-from-behind 3-1 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Morehead State, Friday afternoon at Raymond C. Hand Park.

The opener turned into a bona fide pitcher’s duel through six innings as Rye and Morehead State starter Aaron Leasher put plenty of zeroes on the board. Rye held the advantage in the duel as he kept the Eagles hitless through 5.1 innings.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – On Thursday, April 13th, Austin Peay’s baseball team will begin a five-game road trip when it visits Eastern Kentucky for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series.

The Govs and Colonels will begin the series with a 6:00pm (CT), Thursday contest followed by a 5:00pm (CT), Friday matchup. A noon (CT), Saturday affair will conclude the series.

After two scoreless frames to start the contest, Belmont (14-15, 9-5 OVC) broke through in the third when catcher Clay Payne led off the inning with a home run to left.

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team closes its current five-game road trip when it heads northward again, this time to face Southern Illinois in a 5:00pm, Tuesday contest at Itchy Jones Stadium in Carbondale, Illinois.

Tuesday’s contest is the second half of the 2017 home-and-home set between the teams. The Govs won the season’s first meeting, 10-3, February 22nd in Clarksville thanks to five home runs, including a pair by right fielder Chase Hamilton.
