As part of its 26th season of presenting quality live theatre, the Roxy Regional Theatre in Clarksville, Tennessee, opened the hit musical CATS on Friday, April 10, to a sold-out house. Tickets are still available for CATS performances through May 2, playing Tuesdays thru Thursdays at 7pm and Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, with a 2pm matinee on Saturday, April 18.
Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S. Eliot, CATS tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle cats, at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heaviside layer. Featuring a cast of seventeen and the fresh and energetic choreography of Braham Logan Crane, CATS is certain to delight and inspire audiences of all ages.

 "One" from "A Chorus Line"
NEHS Exit One, Concert and SSA Women’s Choir chosen to open for The Haywood Family Show in Branson, Missouri.
After two months of intensive rehearsals in both voice and choreography, to say nothing of the memorization involved, Broadway came to Clarksville Thursday evening as the Northeast High School Choral Department presented its Spring Show 2009 in the NEHS auditorium.
The show will also be presented Tonight at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, March 22, at 3 p.m. Admission is $5 per adult, $3 per student.
It’s a show that has something extra this year when the Exit One Show Choir, the Concert Choir and the SSA Women’s Choir travel to Branson, Missouri in April to perform as the opening act for the Haywood Family Show, with a selection of routines from the current show to be performed and taped “on tour.” «Read the rest of this article»

RENT: The Broadway Finale, is screening at Great Escape Cinema at 7 p.m., September 24, and at noon on the 27-28.
When the first televised ad for the movie version of Broadway’s RENT cabled into our home a couple of years ago, my eldest granddaughter heard the strains of Seasons of Love and the verdict was in: a die hard fan was born and the film version hadn’t yet been released. Yes, we saw RENT (the movie) together, several times, applauded, cried, let the music run through our minds on instant replay. Last summer that granddaughter, Brandi, accompanied Clarksville Online to the live production of RENT at T-PAC in Nashville. Clutching the programs and her newly acquired T-shirt with RENT splayed across the front, Brandi sat with us, mesmerized by this piece of Broadway that had fallen our backyard, so to speak.

Sitting here in Clarksville, where the Tennessee Titans football is much closer that the World Series winners in Boston, I realize I am a long way from Fenway Park and its famed green monster. Not that I am a baseball fan. Or a fan of football. Or basketball. Or hockey. Or any of those mainstream team games. Don’t care. Never did. Never bought the T-shirt.
Nonetheless, as I read last week’s edition of my hometown’s non-traditional newspaper, and knowing that team sports play big across America, I couldn’t help but be captivated by a commentary on the state of ticket prices in major league sports: the announcement that Red Sox tickets would be pricing out at $125 per seat per game for the 2008 season. Wow! «Read the rest of this article»
