Nashville Sounds Out-Hits Cubs But Suffers Third Consecutive Loss

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA - Iowa left-hander Brooks Raley twirled six scoreless innings to lead the Iowa Cubs to a 4-1 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Tuesday evening at Principal Park in the opener of a four-game series. The defeat was the third in a row and the sixth loss in the last seven games for Nashville (4-8).

The Sounds out-hit the Cubs, 10-3, in the game and placed a runner into scoring position in seven of the nine innings but finished just 1-for-11 in RBI opportunities. Ozzie Chavez, Cole Garner, and Anderson De La Rosa all turned in two-hit efforts for the Sounds.

Nashville Sounds lose to Omaha Storm Chasers 3-2 in Monday match-up

 

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NE - Despite outhitting their opponent Monday morning while battling light snow flurries in 36 degree temps, the Nashville Sounds were edged 3-2 by the Omaha Storm Chasers at Werner Park, dropping the series, 3-1.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the seventh, Omaha left fielder Xavier Nady jumped on Hiram Burgos’ (0-2) 70th pitch for a wind-aided home run to right field that proved to be the game winner.

Nashville Sounds shutout Round Rock Express 2-0 to take Series

Nashville SoundsRound Rock, TX – The Nashville Sounds blanked the Round Round Express, 2-0, on Friday night at The Dell Diamond in the finale of a three-game series. The shutout was Nashville’s PCL-leading eighth of the season and second in three games over the Express.

With the win, Nashville (33-49) picked up only their second winning series on the road this season and finished 3-4 overall on the seven-game road trip through Albuquerque and Round Rock.

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds and Iowa Cubs split a doubleheader for the second consecutive day on Saturday evening at Principal Park.

A sixth-inning Jay Gibbons homer propelled Nashville to a 3-2 victory in the nightcap after Iowa left-hander Brooks Raley fired a six-hit shutout in a 1-0 Cubs victory in the opener.

With the game two win, Nashville (24-39) gained a split of a twinbill against the division-rival Cubs for the second straight evening.

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – Iowa left-hander Brooks Raley tossed a seven-inning, six-hit shutout to lead the Cubs to a 1-0 victory over the Nashville Sounds in the opener of a doubleheader on Saturday evening at Principal Park.

Raley (2-1), who retired the final eight batters in order and 14 of the last 15 Sounds overall, threw 90 pitches to record the shutout .The southpaw allowed six hits, struck out six, and did not walk a batter.

Nashville Sounds split Doubleheader with Iowa Cubs on Friday Night

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds split a doubleheader with the division-rival Iowa Cubs on Friday night at Principal Park, dropping the opener, 5-4, and winning the nightcap by a score of 6-0.

Nashville (23-38) moved to 2-4 on the season in doubleheader action with the split and collected their sixth shutout of the season in the doubleheader finale.

Nashville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth of the nightcap as outfielder Logan Schafer and first baseman Sean Halton drew one-out walks off Iowa starter Ryan Rowland-Smith. After an Andy Gonzalez single, shortstop Hainley Statia hit an RBI groundout to the shortstop to bring home Shafer.
