Tennessee Department of Transportation provides $4.4 Million for Infrastructure and Other Improvements to 15 Tennessee Airports
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced friday that state aeronautics grants totaling $4,413,873 have been approved for fifteen Tennessee airports.

Tennessee Department of Agriculture reports Emerald Ash Borer found in Middle Tennessee for the First Time
TDA Foresters stress importance of Not Moving Firewood to help Slow Spread
Nashville, TN – Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive insect that destroys ash trees, has recently been found in Smith and Jefferson counties. Smith is the first county in Middle Tennessee where EAB has been found. Both cases have been confirmed by USDA.
While Jefferson County is adjacent to previously quarantined areas where EAB has been confirmed, the find in Smith County was of particular concern because of the distance the insect was found from the already quarantined areas in East Tennessee. The location in Smith County where four EAB were caught is at Cordell Hull Lake in the Elmwood/Granville area.

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announces “No Refusal” Enforcement during Labor Day Weekend
Tennessee Highway Patrol, Governor’s Highway Safety Office and Mother’s Against Drunk Driving Make Joint Announcement
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons and Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Tracy Trott announced the department’s second “No Refusal” enforcement campaign at a joint press conference with the Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in Nashville.
The “No Refusal” enforcement effort, beginning at 6:00pm on Friday, August 31st and concluding at midnight on Monday, September 3rd, will also coincide with the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security encourages Voters to obtain Photo IDs before March 6th Presidential Primary
Special Saturday Service will cease after March 3rd, County Clerk Partners to stop issuing Voter Photo ID on March 12th
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security is encouraging voters this week to obtain photo IDs for voting purposes at no cost before the Tennessee Presidential Primary elections on March 6th.
The department will open certain driver service centers across the state this Saturday for voter photo identification issuance only. March 3rd will be the last opportunity for registered voters to take advantage of this special Saturday service.

Findings Released in Guard Helicopter Crash
Nashville, TN – Tennessee National Guard officials announced today that investigators from the Army Safety Center and Army Aviation Center have concluded their investigation into the crash of an OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter July 9th in Campbell County.

Two Tennessee Army National Guard Pilots Killed in Helicopter Crash
Nashville, TN – Major General Max Haston sadly announced today that 1st Lt. Thomas Joseph Williams, Jr. and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Daniel Cole both of Knoxville were killed Saturday when their OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter crashed in Campbell County. The cause of the crash is under investigation at this time.

Tennessee National Guard Helicopter Crashes in Campbell County
Nashville, TN – At about 5:30pm EDT, Saturday, July 9th, a Tennessee Army Guard OH-58D Kiowa Warrior Helicopter with two pilots on board crashed in Campbell County, Tennessee. Both pilots were killed in the crash.
At the time of the accident the crew was conducting a routine training flight.
At this time the cause of the crash is not known. We will not speculate as to the cause.

Nashville, TN - Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam announced today the federal government will provide Individual Assistance in two counties and Public Assistance to local governments in 25 counties under the current disaster declaration for the severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes of April 25th to April 28th, 2011, with a federal designation of DR-1974.
“I am pleased the federal government will be providing assistance to additional counties and individuals in Tennessee so they can begin rebuilding their lives and communities,” Haslam said. “This has been a trying year for many of our neighbors, and our local and state agencies are working very closely to make sure we identify where help is needed so we can recover from these severe weather incidents.” «Read the rest of this article»
