Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball ready for season opener Friday

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN - The Tennessee Lady Vols held a media session and open practice period Wednesday in advance of Friday’s season opener vs. Penn.

No. 4/4 UT and the Quakers will meet at Thompson-Boling Arena in a contest slated to tip at 7:00pm ET and be streamed live by SEC Network+.

The contest will be the first between the two programs and only Tennessee’s second vs. a school from the Ivy League. The Lady Vols, who were ranked No. 1 at the time, toppled Princeton, 107-39, on December 20th, 2005, in their only other meeting with an Ivy program.

Clarksville High golfer Sam Davis signs with South Atlantic Conference champion Carson Newman

 

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – Clarksville High School golfer Sam Davis became the second player from this year’s District 10-AAA boys championship team to sign to play college golf next year, as he cast his lot with Carson Newman College in a ceremony in the school’s cafeteria April 16th.

Davis joins Hunter Richardson, who signed with Tennessee Martin in the fall signing period.

“Sam is our second player to sign this year,” Clarksville High coach Adam Welch said. “I’m tickled about Sam signing and anytime you’re going to a program that is winning their conference title and going to the NCAA tournament — becoming a part of those type teams — is a great accomplishment.”

University of Tennessee to retire Candace Parker’s jersey

 

Knoxville, TN - After the Southeastern Conference Office unveiled this year’s league schedule on Tuesday, Tennessee Head Women’s Basketball Coach Holly Warlick announced her team’s 2013-14 slate. UT also revealed it will retire Candace Parker’s jersey on January 2nd prior to the LSU game.

The defending SEC champion Lady Volunteers, who were 27-8 in 2012-13 and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, will play 18 regular-season games vs. teams that saw postseason action a year ago. That group includes 11 teams that made the NCAA Tournament and five that played in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.

APSU Lady Govs head coach Carrie Daniels adds experienced Dean Walsh to coaching staff

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball head coach Carrie Daniels has announced the addition of Dean Walsh to her coaching staff for the 2013-14 season, effective Monday.

Walsh, who was an associate head coach at Gardner-Webb last season, fills the position left vacant by the departure of Jessica Grayson last fall and joins assistant coaches Brooke Armistead and Jerome Jackson on Daniels’ staff.
