Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurray, KY – In a season of frustrating losses, chalk up maybe the most painstaking for Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, Saturday afternoon in the CFSB Center.

All-America guard Isaiah Canaan connected on a traditional three-point play and a long three-point shot in overtime to lead Murray State to 78-65 victory in an Ohio Valley Conference.

Both teams enter the contest following Monday victories. The Lady Govs ended an eight-game losing streak with an impressive 85-72 victory at Murray State.

Morehead State posted only its second win in its last eight outings with a 79-60 victory against Jacksonville State. The Eagles visit Clarksville seeking a sweep of the regular-season series after posting a 74-67 victory, December 31st, in Morehead.

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsMurray, KYAustin Peay State University women’s basketball team ended an eight-game losing streak with an impressive 85-72 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Murray State, Monday night at the CFSB Center.

Austin Peay (6-20, 3-10 OVC) scored a season-high 85 points thanks to a 53.8 percent (35-of-65) shooting effort that also was a season-best. The Lady Govs also were red-hot from outside, making 64.3 percent (9-of-14) of their three-pointers. Austin Peay also recorded a season-high in assists (20).

Murray State Racers bounce back from Thursday loss, hands Austin Peay Governors Basketball a 28-point loss

Clarksville Sports NetworkMurray, KY – Coming off their first loss of the season, Murray State entered Saturday night’s return game against the Austin Peay Governors eager to prove to the rest of the nation that the Racers are still the team to beat in the Ohio Valley Conference.

And, unfortunately for the Govs, the Racers had no problems proving that point as Isaiah Canaan scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the first half, fueling the Racers to a 82-63 blowout win over their conference rivals in the CFSB Center.

Austin Peay travels to Murray State, 7:30pm, Saturday, looking to snap a three game losing streak that saw the Govs lose, 94-55, Monday at Belmont. Meanwhile, the Racers saw their 23-game winning streak end at home to Tennessee State, Thursday.

Lady Govs end four-game skid, win at Murray State

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurray, KYAustin Peay State University women’s basketball team dismissed a slow start and ended a four-game losing streak with a 71-55 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Murray State, Saturday afternoon, at CFSB Center.

Murray State (4-11, 0-5 OVC) got off to a hot start, making seven of their first nine field goals and scoring the game’s first 12 points and led 14-2 with 14:07 remaining in the first half. Austin Peay (5-13, 4-2) missed its first nine field goals, only breaking through on freshman Nicole Olszewski’s layup at the 14:21 mark.

Governors snap Racers’ 25-game home win streak with 66-64 victory

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurray, KYAustin Peay State University snapped the nation’s fourth longest home winning streak, Saturday afternoon, as it held off Murray State, 66-64, in Ohio Valley Conference basketball action, played at the CFSB Center in Murray, KY.

The victory was Austin Peay’s fifth straight and improved them to 5-0 in the OVC and 11-6 overall. Murray State falls to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the OVC.

The Govs’ victory snapped the Racer’s 25-game home winning streak. Only Kansas (68), Duke (28) and Kentucky (26) had longer winning streaks entering Saturday. It also snapped Murray State’s 18-game OVC home winning streak.

Staggering Lady Govs seek to right ship at Murray State

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurray, KY – Austin Peay women’s basketball team will seek an end to its four-game losing streak when it meets Murray State in a 1:15pm, Saturday contest at CFSB Center.

The Lady Govs have lost each of their four games since returning from the Christmas Break. That streak includes Thursday’s 78-54 loss at UT Martin, which saw Austin Peay shooting just 30.3 percent from the field. The Lady Govs trailed by just five points at halftime, but scored only 26 points in the second frame while making 9-of-34 (26.5 percent) of their field goals.
