Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – For the first time since 2010, a pair of AP Top-25 Teams will clash in Thompson-Boling Arena this Sunday, as the 20th-ranked Volunteers host No. 7 North Carolina. The game will tip at 2:00pm CT and will be televised live on ESPN and streamed online via WatchESPN.

Tennessee announced plans earlier in the week to “checker” Thompson-Boling Arena for next Sunday’s highly anticipated game against the defending national champion Tar Heels.

Fans planning to attend the sold-out showdown, which tips off at 2:00pm CT on ESPN, are encouraged to visit to learn whether their seats are in a section designated to wear orange or white.

APSU names Mike Minyard as Assistant Director of Athletics for External Affairs

This campus and the people on it have an energy and enthusiasm that is unmatched. University of Tennessee to retire Candace Parker’s jersey


Knoxville, TN – After the Southeastern Conference Office unveiled this year’s league schedule on Tuesday, Tennessee Head Women’s Basketball Coach Holly Warlick announced her team’s 2013-14 slate. UT also revealed it will retire Candace Parker’s jersey on January 2nd prior to the LSU game.

The defending SEC champion Lady Volunteers, who were 27-8 in 2012-13 and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, will play 18 regular-season games vs. teams that saw postseason action a year ago. That group includes 11 teams that made the NCAA Tournament and five that played in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.

Step back in time at Henry Horton State Park


Annual Festival Slated for Sept. 18-19

henryhortonCHAPEL HILL, Tenn. – Henry Horton State Park will host its annual Step Back in Time festival September 18 – 19, featuring a pre-1840s encampment, horse-mounted shooters, arts and crafts, antique tractors and cars, music, food and much more.  Activities will begin at 9 a.m. each day and run until approximately 7:30 p.m.  The festival is free and open to the public.

“The Step Back in Time festival is a fun and educational event for the entire family and a great way to learn about Tennessee history,” said Shane Petty, chief ranger for Tennessee State Parks.   “We are excited about the many talented artisans and musicians that will be on hand, along with some great re-enactors that will truly take us back to another time.”

Live entertainment will include the Cumberland Pack Blue Grass Band, the Middle Tennessee Cloggers, a puppeteer, various storytellers and re-enactors.  Other featured attractions will be blacksmithing, roping, dobro and chair weaving, broom making, among many other unique activities.  On Friday, there will be a historical walk or ride beginning at 5:30 p.m. honoring individuals that lived on the Henry Horton property. «Read the rest of this article»
