Brentwood, TN – Freshman sprinter Breigh Jones has been named Ohio Valley Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Jones placed third in the 400m dash at the Buckeye Tune-Up with a 56.63 mark, which was converted to 55.89 due to the track size at French Field House.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Track and Field’s Chantelle Grey named OVC Co-Track Athlete of the Week

Brentwood, TN – Senior Chantelle Grey, of the Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team, has been named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Track Co-Athlete of the Week. She shares the award with Eastern Kentucky’s Ann Eason.
Grey has been busy during the first few weeks of indoor season. The 2012 NCAA Preliminary Round qualifier in the 800m run owns the best OVC mark in that event so far this season, coming at last week’s Blazer Invite. Her 2:15.37 mark was hundredths of a second away from being the meet’s top time.

2011 Outdoor Track and Field Championships starts Friday

Clarksville, TN – It all comes down to the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships for Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team, Friday and Saturday, hosted by Murray State at Roy Stewart Stadium.
The Lady Govs finished fourth a year ago, but look to climb in the ranks with an improved sprint crew and young distance team that has made consistent strides throughout the season. Austin Peay also has elevated its efforts in the field events, adding several throwers to an already established jump group.

Holt, Harris earn Legends Awards; Doyle, Terry named Most Outstanding Athletes

Clarksville, TN – Two senior athletes who authored record-setting careers have been named the 2010-11 Legends Award recipients.
And two underclass athletes who led their respective programs into the postseason have been named Most Outstanding Athletes. The recipients of Austin Peay State University‘s most cherished athletic awards along with the individual team honors were made Monday night at APSU’s annual Athletics banquet, held in Dave Aaron Arena.

Anticipated progress shows for Lady Govs track

Nashville, TN – Distance and throwing events highlighted Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team’s efforts at the Vanderbilt Invitational, Friday and Saturday.
“We had a good weekend,” head coach Doug Molnar said. “We went out with a business-like fashion and we took care of what we wanted to do. We tried to pick and choose our races; we didn’t run the relays and tried to focus on some individual events. In two weeks, we want to have the best seeding times as possible.”

Vandy Invitational next for APSU Track and Field

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team combines its efforts for the Vanderbilt Invitational, Friday and Saturday, at the Vanderbilt Track and Field Complex.
Last week, the Lady Govs split up the sprinters and distance runners, sending the sprinters to the Sea Ray Relays and the latter to the Bellarmine Invitational. Both groups had successful events, recording a number of personal bests and even setting an OVC-best time in the 400-meters.

Hogan named CIAF APSU Athlete of the Week

 Clarksville, TN – Sophomore John Hogan, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
In five games last week Hogan hit .333 (7-for-21) with two runs scored, four doubles, and seven RBI. The Governors won two of three at Jacksonville State, giving the Govs their third-straight conference series win.
The Saint Louis, MO native was clutch in the Governors two victories over Jacksonville State. In Game 1, Hogan started strong with a first-inning RBI double. Then with the Govs down 2-1 in the fifth-inning, Hogan hit a two-run double giving the Governors a lead they would not release. «Read the rest of this article»
Richards and Obi lead track and field during split weekend

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team split ranks for the weekend, sending sprinters to the Sea Ray Relays, and taking distance runners and jumpers to the Bellarmine Invitational.
At Bellarmine, the Lady Govs distance crew did a nice job despite some unsightly weather conditions. In fact, six Lady Govs set personal bests in the 1500-meter run, led by Xiamer Richards, who ran the race with a time of 4:48.76, which was more than seven seconds faster than her previous best.

Sea Ray Relays give Lady Govs track chance to improve

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay women’s track and field team returns to action at Tennessee’s 45th Annual Sea Ray Relays, beginning Friday, in Knoxville TN.
The Lady Govs will take a small contingent to Knoxville looking to improve times on the track, while also solidifying their work on the triple jump. While Austin Peay showed improvement in its last meet, the Austin Peay Invitational, there remains plenty to be shored up as the outdoor season’s halfway point nears.
