APSU’s Chris Horton named OVC Freshman of the Year joins Travis Betran on OVC All-Newcomer team

Brentwood, TN – Chris Horton, who became the first conference player to block 100 or more shots since 1996-97, has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.
In addition, Horton and Govs’ leading scorer Travis Betran were been named to the OVC All-Newcomer team. The OVC post-season basketball honors were announced Tuesday by the league office after a vote of league coaches and sports information directors.

APSU Athlete of the week Craig Massoni

Clarksville, TN – Junior first baseman Craig Massoni, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
The Danville, CA, native hit .385 in three games last week, adding a home run and seven RBI. Much of Massoni’s damage came in his monstrous 3-for-4, six-RBI outing against Southern Illinois, Tuesday. Each of his hits drove in two Governor runs in an 11-8 victory.

Austin Peay State University freshman Chris Horton receives honor

Clarksville, TN – Chris Horton, who became only the fourth player in league history to record 100 single-season blocked shots, has been named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week.
It is the ninth time this season—the second most in OVC history—the Decatur, GA, native claimed the weekly freshman award.

APSU Governors Basketball no match for hot shooting Southeast Missouri Redhawks

Clarksville, TN - Southeast Missouri put on a shooting exhibition in the first half, Thursday in the Dunn Center, scoring 65 points in the first 20 minutes of play on its way to defeating Austin Peay, 108-81.
It was the first 100-point game given up by Austin Peay (7-23, 3-12 OVC) at the Dunn Center since Morehead State scored 102 points in a 102-100 win versus the Governors back on January 20th 1992.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball lose in overtime to Liberty Flames 79-73 at ESPN BracketBusters

Lynchburg, VA – Overtime and Austin Peay State University basketball just don’t mix.
After Travis Betran’s long three pointer tied the game and the Govs defense denied Liberty at regulation’s end, the Governors year-long free-throw shooting woes caught up with them in overtime as Liberty held off APSU, 79-73, in the ESPN Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters contest at the Vines Center.

Clarksville, TN – Senior Anthony Campbell, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Campbell earned his first career Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors for his performance in last week’s road trip, helping the Govs secure two victories. With a pair of 20-point performances over the weekend, Campbell has broken the 20-point barrier nine times in 2012-13.
