Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUJacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State built a 13-point first-half lead, utilizing 55 percent shooting combined with nine Austin Peay State University turnovers, and then held off a Governors’ second-half run, finally prevailing, 71-59, Thursday night in Ohio Valley Conference action at Pete Mathews Coliseum.

The Governors come in after an uneven 5-9 non-conference season.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors, Lady Govs begin OVC play looking to return to postseason

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s men’s and women’s basketball team’s enter Ohio Valley Conference play this week looking to end their two-year runs of not making the postseason, have they shown enough in pre-conference play to give Govs fans hope that those runs will end?

In the pre-season polls that were released back in October, the Govs were picked to finish fourth in the OVC’s western division and in what would be eighth-place overall – or the last spot into the tournament field.

Austin Peay State University Governors Basketball fall at Ole Miss 92-63

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUOxford, MS – Ole Miss closed the first half on a 14-3 run and were never headed as Austin Peay State University dropped a 92-63 decision, Saturday afternoon, in Tad Smith Coliseum.

This was the final non-conference game for the Govs, who are now 5-9 on the season.

The New Year’s Eve contest will be APSU’s final of 2014 and the Govs are seeking an uplift after a disappointing pre-Christmas finale at Lipscomb, a 69-63 road loss in a December 21st contest that saw them overcome an 11-point second-half deficit to tie the contest but only falter down the stretch.

Instant Peay Play: Marco Iten and Breigh Jones reaching NCAA finals highlight Austin Peay State University Athletic Department’s 2014

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – With the 2014 calendar coming to an end this week, there were several highlights over the past 12 months for the Austin Peay Athletic Department, but topping the list has to be the NCAA Championship appearances by Marco Iten in Men’s golf and Breigh Jones in women’s outdoor track and field.

Iten, a senior, would start his run to the NCAA men’s golf championships by winning Ohio Valley Conference medalist honors by a shot, which earned his a spot in the NCAA Regional in Auburn, AL.

APSU Basketball’s Josh Robinson selected OVC Freshman of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports Information - , APSU, Governors, Govs, Lady GovsNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University guard Josh Robinson, who knocked down seven three pointers against Oakland City and averaged 11.3 points per game on the week, has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week.

Robinson, a 6-3, 180 pounder from St. Louis, MO recorded his short career’s first 20-point game against Oakland City. Inserted into the line less than three minutes into the game, Robinson missed his first three pointer but then caught fire.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s season-long offensive struggles will send the Governors into the Christmas break on negative note.

The Governors converted just 3-of-20 three-point attempts compared to eight by Lipscomb and that was the difference as APSU fell, 69-63, Sunday afternoon, in non-conference basketball action in Allen Arena.
