Clarksville Police urge Halloween safety

Clarksville Police Department’s officers will be out in abundance in an effort to ensure Trick-or-Treaters, as well as those celebrating the fall tradition of Halloween, have a safe and enjoyable time. There will be 30 additional officers on the streets patrolling through your neighborhoods and on the roadways around Clarksville on Halloween. We’ve listed some recommendations of things you can do to make Halloween safer for everyone.

Halloween should be a fun time for all involved. But, unfortunately it can also be a dangerous and deadly time due to impaired driving. According to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, there have been close 5,000 traffic fatalities during Halloween between 1996-2005. Forty-four percent of those fatalities involved a driver or a motorcycle rider with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher which is illegal in every state. «Read the rest of this article»

Saturation CPD patrols yield 66 charges

The Clarksville Police Department’s saturation patrols (partially funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office) October 24 and October 25 between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. yielded the following results:

There were 68 vehicles stopped which yielded 66 charges: 6 DUIs (driving Under the influence); 2 Implied Consent; 1  Failure to Use Reasonable Care; 23 Speeding; 8 Insurance Law; 1 Seat Belt; 9 Equipment Violations; 4 Driver License Violations; 1 Improper Turns; 2 Revoked/Suspended Driver Licenses; 1 Improper Passing; 3 Vehicle Registration; 2 Simple Possession; 1 Public Intoxication; 1 Weapon Charge and 1 Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia.

“Saturation” policing targets drunk drivers

The Clarksville Police Department will be performing saturation patrols (partially funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office) throughout the City of Clarksville on October 24 and 25, 2008 between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.. The primary purpose of the saturation patrols is to detect and apprehend impaired drivers through aggressive traffic enforcement.

The CPD, in conjunction with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, will also be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint and saturation patrols on Ft Campbell Blvd (partially funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office) October 31, from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.. Boy Scouts, CMCCS to co-sponsor Learning for Life Fun Day

The Boy Scouts of America, working with the Clarksville Montgomery County School System, will host a Learning for Life Fun Day at Billy Dunlop Park, 1930 E. Boy Scout Rd, Clarksville,  on September 19, 2008.

The Official Welcome and Opening Ceremony is scheduled for 10:00-10:30.  Closing ceremonies are scheduled at 13:20.  The activities and show are for gifted (learning disabilities) children.

Clarksville Police Officers will be on hand to talk with the children and demonstrate fingerprinting.

Three car crash draws mass response

A three car pileup on Fort Campbell Boulevard near Walmart around 10 p.m. Wednesday night blocked three lanes of northbound traffic. Multiple police units, fire department and EMS teams responded to the scene, where several children and others were being comforted and assisted along with the adults involved. While EMS treated and transported a number of people, further details were not available at this time.

CPD has a new weapon in its war on DUI’s: a portable booking station on wheels

Clarksville Police win twice: a “Speed Awareness Campaign” Trophy from the state and new grant funded DUI facility on wheels

Clarksville roads are a bit safer today due to a group of highly dedicated men and women who got together last night for a joint Clarksville Police Department DUI Enforcement and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department DUI roadblock. Approximately 450 vehicles passed through the checkpoint during its operation between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., with between 10 and 15 citations being issued for a variety of offenses including not wearing seat belts, falsified registration, driving without headlights, curfew violations, and at least two suspected DUI’s.

The new DUI trailer is equipped with breathalizers, wireless computer technology and holding cells. Here officers administer a field sobriety test.

This outing was the first for the Clarksville Police’s new DUI trailer. Late Friday afternoon, local police and representatives from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office gathered on Vista Lane to unveil the new $27,000 trailer, designed and built by Trailerlogic of Anderson, South Carolina. Mike Richardson, President of Trailerlogic, was on hand for the event and its first deployment Friday night.

Sobriety checkpoint set for holiday weekend

The Clarksville Police Department, in conjunction with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, August 29th from 11:00 pm until 1:00 am on Fort Campbell Blvd. The purpose is to detect and deter impaired drivers.

CPD will have extra D.U.I. Enforcement Officers working both Friday and Saturday nights for the holiday weekend. The CPD urges drivers to not mix driving and drinking.

Additionally, the CPD will have their new D.U.I. Booking Trailer, constructed by Michael Richardson and Trailerlogic, LLC, on hand for an “open house” for media and others from 1600 hours until 1700 hours Friday, August 29, 2008. It will be set up at 1584 Vista Lane for this event.

Prostitution lingers in Clarksville. Why?

Despite repeated calls to CPD, streetwalkers still plague the New Providence community.

There seems to be a settled group of prostitutes practicing their trade in a small area of New Providence. They concentrate on the Walnut/Power Street intersection, Power Street as it runs along the rear of Vacation Motor Motel and the connecting alleyway between the Mapco and Shell convenience marts. Many citizen-residents have called the CPD to report the presence and activities of these women in these areas. The 9-1-1 logs are filled with reporting calls from area residents complaining about the situation. CPD dispatches police cruisers to the call, yet the women remain a blight on the community.
