Memphis Redbirds down Nashville Sounds 3-2

Nashville SoundsMemphis, TN – The Nashville Sounds put together a late rally but it was not enough as they fell to the Memphis Redbirds 3-2 Wednesday night at AutoZone Park. The one-run game was the sixth of its kind in the season series between the two ball clubs.

Memphis starter Jack Flaherty put together a dominant performance on the mound while the Sounds had to piece together a ball game with its bullpen. Felix Doubront made a spot start for Zach Neal and lasted three innings before being replaced by fellow southpaw, Patrick Schuster. Corey Walter finished out the ball game, tossing the final 2 2/3 innings.

Memphis Redbirds defeat Nashville Sounds 12-7 to clinch Division Title

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Memphis Redbirds clinched the American Southern Division Championship with a 12-7 win over the Nashville Sounds in front of 7,905 fans at First Tennessee Park Sunday night.

The Redbirds have been in first place in the division for nearly all of the 2017 season and became the first team in the Pacific Coast League to punch a ticket to the playoffs.

Sunday’s game went back and forth throughout the night as both teams lit up the scoreboard. Memphis put the first run on the board when Stephen Piscotty clubbed a double off the left field wall to score Alex Mejia.

Nashville Sounds down Memphis Redbirds 3-1

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Zach Neal fired seven strong innings to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 3-1 win over the Memphis Redbirds Friday night in front of 9,066 fans at First Tennessee Park.

Neal’s fantastic outing was the first time a Sounds starter went seven innings since Corey Walter tossed seven against New Orleans on June 20th.

The lone run the right-hander allowed came in the first inning. Memphis first baseman Alex Mejia doubled to the right-center gap with two outs in the frame to put a runner in scoring position. Stephen Piscotty followed by hitting a high fly ball towards the left field wall.

Nashville Sounds have four homers in 8-5 win over Reno Aces

Nashville SoundsReno, NV – The Nashville Sounds slugged their way to an 8-5 victory over the Reno Aces Friday night. The Sounds clobbered four home runs in the contest while three players recorded multi-hit games.

The Sounds gave Aces starter Taylor Clarke a rude welcome to the Triple-A level. Nashville tagged the young right-hander for eight runs on nine hits including all four of Nashville’s home runs.

Nashville spotted Corey Walter a 1-0 lead after the top half of the first inning. Franklin Barreto launched an opposite field home run to put the Sounds on top. For Barreto it was his 14th home run of the season between Nashville and Oakland, which set a new single-season high for the A’s top prospect.

Nashville SoundsReno, NV – The Nashville Sounds started their eight-game road trip with a 4-3 loss to the Reno Aces at Greater Nevada Field Thursday night.

After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, the Sounds surrendered four unanswered runs to drop their fourth consecutive game.

Starters Frankie Montas and Jake Buchanan matched zeroes through the first two innings before the Sounds broke through against Buchanan in the third.

Melvin Mercedes started the rally with a one-out double, and then moved to third on a wild pitch. Jaff Decker’s RBI groundout gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead. They weren’t done as four consecutive two-out hits plated another two runs.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Three Nashville Sounds pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over the Las Vegas 51s in front of 9,648 fans Friday night at First Tennessee Park.

Michael Brady started and went four innings, Bobby Wahl threw the fifth and sixth, and Corey Walter worked the final three frames to give the Sounds their eighth shutout of the season and first series win since June 1st-4th against the Iowa Cubs.

In Brady’s first start since June 11th, the right-hander allowed three hits while racking up five strikeouts. He allowed a two-out double to Dominic Smith in the first, but worked around the scoring threat.

Nashville SoundsNew Orleans, LA – The Nashville Sounds’ offense never got rolling in a 6-0 loss to the New Orleans Baby Cakes Sunday afternoon at Shrine on Airline in New Orleans.

Starter Scott Copeland tossed six shutout innings and two New Orleans relievers combined for the final three innings to send the Sounds to their ninth shutout loss of the year.

Timely hitting gave the Baby Cakes an early 1-0 lead in the second when Brandon Barnes’ two-out double was followed by a run-scoring base hit by Cal Towey.

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds dropped an old fashioned pitcher’s duel Monday night 1-0 to the Iowa Cubs. Starting pitchers Corey Walter and Jen-Ho Tseng combined for 12 scoreless innings and allowed just seven hits between them.

The Sounds offense was unable to solve the Tseng riddle. Nashville tallied just three hits in seven innings against the 22-year-old making just his second career Triple-A start. Tseng fanned eight Sounds on the night and induced soft contact all game long.

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NE – With a series victory in sight, the Nashville Sounds faltered against the Omaha Storm Chasers, dropping the series finale 15-1. The Sounds were seeking their first series victory since the beginning of June, a string of ten series.

Two explosive innings highlighted the day for the Storm Chasers. Omaha sent eight batters to the plate in the third inning against Chris Jensen and four of them came around to score. The Storm Chasers tallied a single run in both the fifth and seventh innings before pouring it on in the eighth. Omaha plated nine runs on eight hits in the eighth inning against three different Sounds pitchers.

Nashville Sounds drop Doubleheader to Colorado Springs Sky Sox

Nashville SoundsColorado Springs, CO – When it rains, it pours and while the Nashville Sounds weren’t in Music City for Wednesday night’s rain storms they found themselves under a storm of hits and runs from the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. The Sky Sox took game one 10-6 and game two 13-6.

Starting pitching struggled on the night for Nashville. Corey Walter and Dalton Sawyer combined to allow 17 runs on 17 hits in 5 1/3 innings. When all was said and done the Sky Sox tagged Sounds pitchers for 23 runs on 17 hits in the two games including a pair of inside-the-park home runs.

The Sky Sox took game one 10-6 on the back of an eight-run third inning. That frame was the worst inning of the season for the Sounds as the Sky Sox erupted for eight runs on nine hits as 13 batters came to the plate to take a 9-2 lead.
