APSU Governors Basketball host Wofford Tuesday at Dunn Center

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – After spending nearly three weeks on the road, Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team will play host to Wofford, 7:00pm, Tuesday, in Dave Aaron Arena in both teams’ last contest before Christmas.

Tuesday’s contest will be the first of a six-game Governors homestand.

For Governors men’s basketball coach Dave Loos a return to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament after a three-year absence. The 26-year Govs mentor has 22 appearances in the tournament; number 23 would be a great present for the veteran coach.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNashville, TN – After trekking some 4,800 miles crisscrossing the country over the past 2 ½ weeks, Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team will voyage just 55 miles down the road to Nashville, 2:00pm, Sunday to conclude its five-game road trip to face Lipscomb at Allen Arena.

The Governors enter Sunday’s game hoping to build a little momentum as is prepares for a six-game home stretch.

APSU Governors Basketball loses 80-70 at North Florida

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUJacksonville, FLChris Horton scored a career-high 28 points and the nation’s third-leading rebounder snared 17 errant shots but unfortunately for Austin Peay State University’s basketball team he was the only Gov in double figures in a 80-70 defeat by North Florida, played at the UNF Arena, Wednesday night.

The loss was the Govs second straight and left them 1-3 on the current road swing and 4-7 overall.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUFort Wayne, IN – It was like trying to eat fruit with milk or drink milk with steak….things that just don’t go together.

Seniors Chris Horton and Khalil Davis picked up their respective third and fourth fouls early in the second half with the Governors leading IPFW by four points. At the same time those two were forced to exit IPFW senior guard Max Landis caught on fire from the perimeter.

APSU Governors Basketball get tough road win over Troy Trojans

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUTroy, AL – The statistics show Chris Horton, with his 21 points and 13 rebounds, and Josh Robinson, with 17 points, led Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team to an 80-71 victory, Saturday afternoon, in Trojan Arena.

However, the play of two others—senior forward Khalil Davis and junior point guard Terrell Thompson—was perhaps as instrumental in the Governors’ second road win of the 2015-16 season.

APSU elevates Cheryl Holt to Associate Athletic Director

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TNCheryl Holt, who has served as Austin Peay State University’s assistant athletics director since 2003 after a long and successful APSU volleyball coaching career, has been elevated to Associate Athletics Director.

That was announced Friday by Athletics Director Ryan Ivey.

“Coach Holt has been a staple for Governors athletics for many years and has worked tirelessly to ensure that our student-athletes have the best experience possible,” Ivey said. “She has been involved in every facet of this department and I am excited that she is being recognized for her efforts.”

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUCorpus Christi, TXDave Loos has a simply philosophy about basketball success on the road. “You have to take your defense, rebounding and free-throw shooting,” the longtime Austin Peay State University basketball coach says.

The Governors accomplished two of three Wednesday night in the American Bank Center against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi…but they failed miserably at the third.
