APSU Basketball looks to continue OVC Tournament run against Belmont Bruins tonight

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s stay in the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference tournament has seen the No. 8 seed Governors take down both the No. 5 and No. 4 seeds, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State, respectively.

If the APSU Govs improbable run is to continue to the league championship game, they will have to take out No. 1 seed Belmont, 6:30pm, Friday, March 4th at Municipal Auditorium.

APSU’s Chris Horton named first-team All-OVC, Josh Robinson earns second-team honors

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNashville, TNChris Horton, who capped out off a landmark Austin Peay career with a superb senior season, has been named first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference in a vote of league coaches and sports information directors. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Josh Robinson, who became Mr. Outside to Horton’s Mr. Inside, was named second-team All-OVC.

That was announced Tuesday by the OVC office.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – The math is pretty simple. For Austin Peay State University to gain an Ohio Valley Conference tournament berth the Governors must finish one game ahead of Eastern Kentucky.

If the Governors (5-8 OVC/12-16 overall) win the remaining three games it also is pretty simple—they will be part of the tournament that begins March 2nd at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium.

APSU Governors-Racers to serve as #RallyforRhyan Game

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – When Austin Peay State University faces Murray State, 6:30pm, Saturday, the contest will be more than just the annual rivalry. It will be Coaches vs. Cancer “Rally for Rhyan Game” as well.

Rhyan is Rhyan Loos, the 5-year-old daughter of Jen and Brad Loos, who is a University of Missouri basketball assistant and former basketball Gov. She is the granddaughter of APSU basketball coach Dave Loos and his wife Phyllis. In October, Rhyan Loos was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a form of cancer found in children 5-years old and younger. By the time Rhyan’s cancer was diagnosed it already had spread into her bone marrow and bloodstream.

APSU Basketball Reunion to honor 1995-96 Championship Teams Saturday, February 20th

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Basketball Reunion will be held Saturday, February 20th, the same day the Governors play host to the Murray State Racers.

On the 20-year anniversary, APSU will honor the 1995-95 Governors and Lady Govs basketball teams, who captured Ohio Valley Conference championships that season. Under head coach LaDonna McClain, It was the Lady Govs’ first basketball championship. On the men’s side, it was fourth Governors championship, but first under head coach Dave Loos.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUCharleston, IL – All of a sudden Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team is becoming a closer.

A game after closing out Murray State with a 7-0 run, the Governors utilized an 18-4 run over the final 5:10 to rally past first-place Eastern Illinois, 79-70, Wednesday night, in Ohio Valley Conference basketball televised on the American Sports Network.

APSU Basketball comes from behind to beat Murray State 76-73

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUMurray, KYJosh Robinson knocked down the go-ahead free throw with 5.7 seconds left and Tre’ Ivory made a steal with 1.6 seconds left as Austin Peay State University rallied down the stretch to defeat Murray State, 76-73, Saturday night in CFSB Center.

The Govs’ victory snapped a nine-game losing streak in the series and it was the first at Murray since January 8th, 2011.

APSU Governors Basketball unable to cage UT Martin Skyhawks

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUMartin, TN – UT Martin exploded out of halftime with an 8-0 run and Austin Peay State University never recovered as the Governors fell, 86-77, Thursday night in Ohio Valley Conference action at the Elam Center.

The loss dropped the Governors to 10-15 overall and 3-7 in the OVC while the Skyhawks improved to 12-12 overall and 4-5 in league play.
