88 APSU Governors named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Eighty-eight Austin Peay State University student-athletes were named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Friday, following the 2016-17 academic year.

Student-athletes must have achieved a 3.25 grade-point average, were eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chose NCAA-sponsored sport(s) and used a season of competition in that sport.

Austin Peay’s numbers include 22 athletes who competed in multiple sports during the season and are counted just once in the department’s total.

APSU Baseball players can be found near and far in summer leagues

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – This summer you’ll be able to find Austin Peay State University baseball players dotting rosters from Florida to Alaska and points in-between with 18 Governors continuing their baseball seasons in collegiate summer leagues across the United States and Canada.

Two Governors – pitcher Jacques Pucheu and utility man Malcolm Tipler – have made the long trek north to the land of the midnight sun, far from their southern roots. The duo are playing this summer for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the Alaska Baseball League, which begins its schedule Tuesday night.

Nashville Sounds defeat Fresno Grizzlies, 4-1

Nashville SoundsFresno, CA – The Nashville Sounds began an eight-game road trip with a 4-1 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies Monday night. Catcher Bruce Maxwell returned from his stint with Oakland with a three-hit night for the Sounds.

Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Chris Bassitt (1-0, 4.00) put together a solid start for the Sounds (16-18). Six days after making his Sounds 2017 debut, Bassitt made his first start for the ball club and cruised through a season-high five innings and needed just 62 pitches to do so.

He benefited from outstanding defense behind him. The Sounds turned a double play in each inning from the second through the fifth. The four twin-killings matched a season-high for Nashville.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay begins a regular-season ending seven game road trip when it meets Notre Dame in a three-game nonconference series at Eck Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.

The three-game set begins with a 6:05pm (CT), Friday contest before continuing both Saturday and Sunday.

Austin Peay then will host Lipscomb in a 1:00pm, Wednesday contest that was moved up from its original May 16th date.

The Govs and Colonels will begin the series with a 6:00pm (CT), Thursday contest followed by a 5:00pm (CT), Friday matchup. A noon (CT), Saturday affair will conclude the series.
