APSU Literature Department continues grant-funded reading program for local middle schools

For a second consecutive year, the Austin Peay State University Department of Languages and Literature has received a grant to help middle school students improve their reading.

The grant from the Student Academic Success Initiative will help APSU to continue the Readers 2 Leaders, a program started in 2008 in which APSU collaborates with local middle schools to engage students in the “shared inquiry” method of reading literature, said Dr. Tim Winters, professor of classics at APSU.

APSU and Zone 3 Literary Journal to Sponsor the Red Mud Review

The Austin Peay State University Department of Languages and Literature and Zone 3 will present the Spring 2009 edition of the Red Mud Review publication.

The spring edition will be available the first week of May. The magazine is free to students and the public.

“The Red Mud Review is a student publication,” said Erin McAteer, editor-in-chief of the magazine. “Undergraduate and graduate students are the main components for the magazine which can include poetry to fiction, paintings to photography.” «Read the rest of this article»
