APSU offers variety of extended, distance education classes

Develop a new skill, explore a new idea, learn a new language or seek a new career with a class from Austin Peay State University’s Center for Extended and Distance Education. Early registrants receive a 10 percent discount on selected courses, and a senior citizen discount is also available on selected courses. Only one discount can be applied per registration and preregistration is required for each course.

Online enrollment keeps climbing at APSU

With 13 fully online degree programs and scores of online classes, Austin Peay State University’s online enrollment continues to soar.

Prior to Fall 2000, APSU offered no online courses. As of Spring 2008, online enrollment has reached 3,430, compared with 2,936 for Spring 2007—a 17 percent increase in one year.

Julia McGee, interim director of the Center for Extended and Distance Education, said, “In addition to those students pursuing an online degree, many main campus and Fort Campbell students supplement their courses with online offerings.” «Read the rest of this article»

Low residency: Alternative programs fuel options in higher education

Goddard College in northern Vermont (and now with a west coast Port Townsend campus) was among the first, a prototype program years ahead of its time, and not without rocky roads along the way. It offered graduate and undergraduate programs, but is no longer the solitary figure of progressive education. It’s in good company now.

With the hectic pace of modern life and extensive access to the internet a reality, more and more colleges, universities and specialized institutions of higher learning are jumping aboard the distance learning bandwagon.
