Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUTallahassee, FL – Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team has made gradual improvements throughout the season, and on Friday, showcased its potential as sophomore Wesley Gray and freshmen Hezron Kiptoo and Tyler Smith competed in the NCAA South Regional.

Austin Peay State University Govs set for NCAA South Regional

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUTallahassee, FL – Three members of the Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team – Wesley Gray, Hezron Kiptoo and Tyler Smith – will compete in the NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships, Friday.

The men’s 10K will be held at the Apalachee Regional Park beginning at 8:30am.

Austin Peay State University Cross County teams power through at OVC Championships

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsNashville, TN – Despite a number of setbacks which limited competitors, Austin Peay State University men and women’s cross country teams powered through at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, Saturday, at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.

The men’s team finished ninth in the 8K, while the women were 11th in the 5K.

Sophomore Wesley Gray posted the top performance by a Gov for the second-straight year, finishing in 28th with a time of 26:15.8.

Austin Peay State University Cross Country Teams do well at APSU Invitational

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – It was a welcome return to home soil for Austin Peay State University men and women’s cross country teams, who posted successful results at the third annual APSU Cross Country Invitational, Saturday, at the Hilldale Baptist Church Family Life Center.

The Governors men’s team placed 3rd in the 10-team four mile competition, while the women were fifth out of ninth place. Memphis won both the men and women’s race.

For the Govs men’s team, three runners posted top 25 finishes. Freshmen Tyler Smith (15th, 22:34) and Hezron Kiptoo (16th, 22:35) led the pack, followed by Daniel Hamm in 25th (23:13).

Govs host APSU Cross Country Invitational, Saturday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men and women’s cross country teams will host the annual Austin Peay Cross Country Invitational, Saturday, at the Hilldale Baptist Church Family Life Center.

The event will feature the largest field of competitors in its three-year history, with nine collegiate schools and two additional groups – Jamul Toads and Nashville Harriers – competing. Joining the Governors in the field are Bethel, Evansville, Lindsey Wilson, Lipscomb, Memphis, Murray State, Sewanee, Welch College and West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

Austin Peay State University Govs take step forward at Rhodes College Invitational

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsMemphis, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s and women’s cross country teams took a step forward at the Rhodes College Invitational, Saturday, with the men placing 5th out of 17 schools and the women finishing 12th of 20.

For the men’s 8K, newcomer Hezron Kiptoo recorded the best finish for a Govs runner this season, posting a 26:21.25 good for 17th. Close behind him was freshman Tyler Smith (19th, 26:27.25) and senior Daniel Hamm (26th, 26:34.86).

APSU Cross Country Teams show improvement in Chattanooga

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsChattanooga, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s and women’s cross country teams continued to make improvements in the second meet of the season, the Powerade Invite, at the Moccasin Bend Race Course.

The Governors men’s team finished fourth out of six competing schools, while the women claimed sixth of seven spots. Other universities competing in the event were Middle Tennessee, who won both events, Alabama, Chattanooga, Samford, Mercer and Alabama A&M.
