Designated handicapped parking remains an issue in the downtown district

ArtWalk. It’s a great event designed to bring people downtown not just a single showcase (Downtown Artist’s Cooperative) but to many of the shops and restaurants that have integrated art into their stores, creating a mix of gallery and merchandise. The warmth and atmosphere of a Main Street with old-fashioned hospitality and style. The ArtWalk’s usually include an artist’s reception with a variety of appetizers, punch, and wine tastings: the perfect accompaniment to art. Too bad I missed it.

Oh, I made it downtown. I’d planned to write about this event, take pictures of it.

But all the sloping curb cuts in the world won’t help if you can’t park your car due to the glaring absence of designated handicapped parking spaces. So through the window of the car I looked at the crowd gathered inside DAC, a bit wistfully I might add, and went back home. Sans art. Sans conversation that I would otherwise have enjoyed. ArtWalk offers early holiday shopping

Tonight’s First Thursday Artwalk sponsored by the Downtown Artist’s Cooperative will feature works by numerous artists and could be an early start to holiday shopping for many visitors. The gallery will host a reception from 5-8 p.m.

The event includes a wine-tasting at the Roxy Regional Theatre, where works of art by Richard Hogan will be on display.  ArtWalk guests have the option of attending the 7 p.m. Roxy showing of the stage play The Crucible. While First Thursday Art Walk events are free, people also have the option of purchasing tickets for today’s 7 p.m. showing of “The Crucible.” «Read the rest of this article»

“ArtWalk and Wine” offers a refreshing break as the summer heat settles in

First Thursday Art Walk and Wine, hosted by the local businesses in the downtown area,will be held Thursday, August 5 from 5-8 p.m. Businesses stay open late, many host artists and have refreshments.

The Downtown Artists Co-op will host an art talk featuring Betty Liles and Nada Fuqua regarding their Retreat from the Heat show, now hanging at the Downtown Artists Cooperative. They will discuss techniques and inspiration for their paintings and style. Refreshments will be provided. Art talk is from 6 – 8 PM.

Jim Hancock’s photography exhibit is hanging at The Front Page Deli.

Judy Lewis will have her work hanging in Rogate’s Boutique. Judy is an extremely talented artist who recently returned to Clarksville. While she busily restores an older home, she makes time for her commission works of portraits and other studies. «Read the rest of this article»

DAC to host membership exhibit

Do you like your art in bunches like grapes? If you do, then the Downtown Artists Co-op (DAC), located at 96 Franklin St. in downtown Clarksville is the place to be this Thursday, June 5th, from 5 - 8 p.m.

The Seventh Annual DAC Membership Exhibit opens at that time with “bunches” of art from many of the area’s most accomplished artists. This will be an excellent opportunity to enjoy food and drink at the DAC opening reception, mingle with fellow art lovers and talk with many of the artists who will be present.

The Downtown Artists Co-op is proud to claim many of the area’s best know artists as members. Several of these members have earned recognition on the state, regional and national level. Some are members of the Tennessee Art League and/or The Tennessee Watercolor Society. At least two DAC members are spouses of soldiers.

Twenty of these DAC artists will be exhibiting more than 40 of their current works of all types of painting, mixed media, photography and collage.

Artists participating in the 7th Annual DAC Membership Exhibit include new members Reisa Peters, Melanie Dennis, and Judy Lewis, and existing members Billy Renkl; Susan Bryant; Monica Quattrochio; Barbara Beach Seip; Gail Meyer; Becky Keene; Cyndi McGrail; Becky Hall; Betty Liles; Mark Griggs; Nada Fuqua; Beverly Parker; Connie Livingston-Dunn; Claudia Balthrop; Cliff Whittaker; Maijaliisa Burkert; and Doug Halloran.

This exhibit will open on June 5th and run through July 12th. Normal gallery hours are noon - 6:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Visitors are welcome and there is no admission fee. For more information you may call the gallery at (931)552-4747 or call Cliff Whittaker at (931)980-2041.
