Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will bring one of its most successful Ohio Valley Conference campaigns will come to a close when it hosts a pair of league contests this weekend. The Lady Govs will host Tennessee Martin in a 7 p.m., Friday contest before closing out the regular season with a 2 p.m., Saturday contest against Murray State at the Dunn Center.
This weekend also will bring to a close the careers of three Lady Govs players – Stephanie Champine, Kirstin Distler and Marisa Jordan. That trio will be recognized before the start of Saturday’s contest against Murray State.

McGregor Park will be closed to the public beginning Wednesday, September 9 to prepare for this weekend’s 22nd Annual Riverfest Celebration. All vehicles must be removed from the park by 1a.m. Wednesday morning. Any vehicles left in the park will be towed at the owner’s expense.
A few road closures will take place the day of the event and alternate routes will be provided. (See map below) The courtesy boat dock and boat ramp at McGregor Park will also be closed during the event. However, boaters may use the boat ramp at Trice Landing this weekend.
Event guests are encouraged to take advantage of the free parking at Austin Peay State University’s Dunn Center parking lot. Bus service will run every 30-45 minutes to shuttle guests from APSU to McGregor Park courtesy boat ramp and back Friday and Saturday. Service will begin at 5p.m. on Friday at APSU and 10a.m. on Saturday. The last pick up from the boat ramp will be 11:15p.m. both nights. «Read the rest of this article»

Nearly all degree candidates plan to participate in Summer Commencement at Austin Peay State University, scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14th in the Dunn Center.
University officials are reporting there are 270 degree candidates, with 264 of those planning to participate in commencement exercises next week.
The 2009 Summer Commencement will not include a guest speaker, and no faculty or student awards will be presented, officials said. The presentation of faculty and student awards is reserved for honor events in the spring.

McGregor Park will be closed to the public beginning Thursday, July 2nd at 8:00p.m. to begin preparing for Friday’s Independence Day Celebration. Any vehicles left in the park after this time will be towed at the owner’s expense. The park will reopen to the public Friday evening at 5:00p.m. for the City of Clarksville’s Independence Day Celebration.
A few road closures will take place the day of the event and alternate routes will be provided. (See attached map.) The courtesy boat dock at McGregor Park will also be closed during the event.

Event guests are encouraged to park at the Austin Peay State University Dunn Center. The Clarksville Transit System will be providing free transportation to and from the event. The first bus leaves the Dunn Center for McGregor Park at 5:30p.m., and the last will leave McGregor Park promptly at 10:15p.m. following the fireworks display.
The third annual Independence Day Celebration takes place this Friday night beginning at 6:00p.m. and is open to the public free of charge.

The greatest basketball player in Austin Peay State University history finally will have his jersey retired.
James “Fly” Williams, one of the legendary players in Ohio Valley Conference history whose early 1970s flamboyant style literally was responsible for packing gymnasiums almost everywhere he played, will see his jersey retired this Thursday at halftime of the Austin Peay-UT Martin game. The 8 p.m. contest will be televised by ESPNU.
Williams starred at Austin Peay during the 1972-73 and 1973-74 seasons, literally helping put the Governors basketball program on the map. He helped lead the Governors to a 22-7 record in 1972-73 and APSU’s first-ever Division I NCAA tournament appearance that included a 77-75 win against Jacksonville and a controversial 106-100 overtime loss to Kentucky. «Read the rest of this article»
