APSU Governors Football’s Defense dominates first scrimmage

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – A stingy defense and solid run game highlighted Austin Peay State University’s first scrimmage, Friday, under new head coach Kirby Cannon.

The Govs defense intercepted four passes, with Tyreon Clark and walk-on Nicholas Smart returning two for touchdowns, in the roughly 60-play scrimmage at Governors Stadium that worked on multiple situational packages. According to Cannon, the defense’s dominance was hardly a surprise.

Austin Peay Governors Football’s defense holds back Tennessee Tech for 38-31 win

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – After racing out to an early 31-0 lead, Austin Peay’s football team survived a furious Tennessee Tech comeback to hang on for a 38-31 Ohio Valley Conference victory on Senior Day.

The victory gives Austin Peay (2-9, 1-7 OVC) its first Ohio Valley Conference win in 2012, as well as a victory in Sgt. York Trophy contests every season since the award’s inception in 2007. Tennessee Tech falls to 3-8 (1-7 OVC). Austin Peay’s 38-point outburst is the Govs largest scoring output in 46 meetings with the Golden Eagles.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TNAustin Peay State University football team hopes to end the season on a high note when it hosts Tennessee Tech in an 11:00am, Saturday contest at Governors Stadium.

The Govs won their last home game – a 56-0 spanking of Culver-Stockton – and look to make it two in a row in Clarksville. Saturday also represents Austin Peay’s last chance to earn an Ohio Valley Conference victory in 2012.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Sophomore setter Cami Fields, of Austin Peay State University volleyball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Fields recorded a career-high 64 assists in the Lady Govs five-set win against Southeast Missouri, Saturday, along with a career-best four blocks and 14 digs. She’s the first Lady Gov to record more than 60 assists in a match since Sarah Alisaleh’s 62-assist performance at Tennessee Tech, November 3rd, 2007.

Austin Peay Governors Football rolls over Culver-Stockton 56-0

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TNAustin Peay State University rolled up 49 first-half points to snap a 10-game losing streak as it defeated outmanned Culver-Stockton, 56-0, Saturday, in a non-conference game at Governors Stadium.

The victory gives Austin Peay a 1-8 overall record while NAIA foe Culver-Stockton, a member of the Heart of America Athletic Conference, slipped to 1-9.

APSU running back Terrence Oliver scored two touchdowns during the game.

The Wildcats, an NAIA team located in Canton, MO, enter the contest with a 1-8 overall record, but are winless (0-8) in the Heart of American Athletic Conference. They are coming off a 29-9 loss to Baker, the 14th-ranked team in NAIA.
