Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s men’s and women’s basketball team’s enter Ohio Valley Conference play this week looking to end their two-year runs of not making the postseason, have they shown enough in pre-conference play to give Govs fans hope that those runs will end?
In the pre-season polls that were released back in October, the Govs were picked to finish fourth in the OVC’s western division and in what would be eighth-place overall – or the last spot into the tournament field.
Clarksville, TN – Anyone that knows me knows that I’ve been involved with Austin Peay and Governors athletics for a long, long time – 1979 to be exact – and this past weekend at the Govs football game versus Eastern Kentucky a friendship that began back in the early 1980’s was resumed like no time had passed.
Scott Barker, from Kingston in east Tennessee, came to Austin Peay in 1982 to play football for then new head coach Emory Hale – who was hired after winning several state championships at Oak Ridge High School.

Clarksville, TN – There haven’t been a lot of wins so far this fall for Austin Peay teams, but with Ohio Valley Conference contests right around the corner, don’t count out the Governors or Lady Govs just yet.
Overall win-loss records are important, without a question, but it’s the OVC games that mean more than the pre-season with berths into the postseason keyed on those contests.
The Clarksville, Tennessee natives and former Clarksville High School standouts are expected to bolster a strong RedHawk returning roster that is gearing up for another NAIA national tournament run.
The package will kickoff on Saturday, September 20th when UT Martin hosts Eastern Kentucky at 12:00pm CT. The second game of the package will take place on Saturday, October 4th and will be a “Wildcard” selection which will be announced roughly 12 days before the contest.

Richmond, KY – Kristin Whitmire hit two home runs and Chandler Groves added a grand slam to power Austin Peay State University’s softball team past Eastern Kentucky University 8-4, April 19th at Gertrude Hood Field, in the nightcap of their Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader after falling to the Colonels 3-0 in the opener.
Morehead, KY – Austin Peay State University’s softball team resent struggles to score runs followed them on the road, April 18th, as the Lady Govs fell in both ends on an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader to Morehead State University, by finals of 3-2 and 11-3.

Richmond, KY – Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team will face Kansas University in the NCAA Tournament on Friday at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO.
The Colonels (24-9), making their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2007, are the No. 15 seed in the South Region. Kansas (24-9) is the No. 2 seed.
