APSU Football claims Sgt. York Trophy with 35-28 win at Tennessee Tech

APSU FootballCookeville, TN –  With a chance to claim the first Sgt. York Trophy in program history, the Austin Peay State University football team picked up a 35-28 victory over in-state rival Tennessee Tech to improve to 3-0 in the series and capture the title, Saturday, November 4th, 2017 in Cookeville Tennessee.

The Governors (6-4, 5-1 OVC) rushing attack was once again dominant, racking up 423 yards – the most in any contest between two Ohio Valley Conference teams this season – en route to 522 yards of total offense.

APSU Volleyball set for Three Games this week

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – The Ohio Valley Conference-leading Governors have another busy week in store with three contests on the schedule. First the Govs will close a three-match road trip with a 6:00pm, Wednesday nonconference contest at Middle Tennessee.

The Govs return to league play with a 7:00pm, Friday contest against UT Martin followed by a 2:00pm, Saturday match against Southeast Missouri.

To say the Governors have been on a roll this season would be an understatement, as they enter the final two weeks of the season with a 23-4 overall record, but more importantly a 11-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Football continues to be one of nation’s best turnaround stories

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Another week, another big win for the Austin Peay State University Governors football team, the same team that after ending the longest losing streak in the nation earlier this season has continued to build as one of the nation’s best turnarounds in the NCAA in 2017.

This past Saturday, October 21st, the Govs (5-3, 4-1 OVC) defeated Southeast Missouri, 38-31, at Fortera Stadium to not only pick up a homecoming victory for its fans and alumni, but its fifth victory of the season – marking just the fourth time by an APSU football team has reached at least five victories in a campaign since 1991.

APSU Baseball releases 2018 Game Schedule

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Contests against Clemson, Kansas State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt highlight the 2018 Austin Peay State University baseball schedule, released Friday.

Under head coach Travis Janssen, who enters his third season at Austin Peay, the Governors will face a 56-game slate beginning February 16th against Maryland-Eastern Shore at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Sophomore punter Devin Stuart, of the Austin Peay State University football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Kingsport, Tennessee native put fourth-ranked Jacksonville State on their heels time and again last weekend, reversing field on one of the Ohio Valley Conference’s most potent on multiple occasions. On seven attempts, he averaged 48.3 yards per punt—best in the Ohio Valley Conference this season and second-highest in program history—including three 50-yard boots and two inside the Gamecock 20-yard line.

APSU Football takes on Tennessee State at Nissan Stadium Saturday

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – In the second of three contests in the Sgt. York Trophy series, the Austin Peay State University football team will head to Music City to square off with in-state rival Tennessee State 6:00pm, Saturday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

The Governors are looking to regain their recent momentum after suffering a 34-14 setback to No. 4 Jacksonville State a week ago.
