APSU FootballClarksville, TN – Year Two of the Will Healy era kicks off under the lights with a road trip to Ohio to take on FBS foe Cincinnati, Thursday Night, August 31st, 2017 at Nippert Stadium. Opening kick is scheduled for 6:00pm on ESPN3.

With talented, high-upside underclassmen complementing a bevy of veterans, expectations continue to rise for Healy’s charges.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Volleyball, Soccer off to good starts for Governors

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – There’s an old saying that goes ‘it’s not how you start, but how you finish’ and that adage is true almost without exception … but it doesn’t hurt to get off to a good start either.

Just ask the Austin Peay State University’s volleyball and soccer teams who have both gotten off to sparking 3-1 starts to begin their respective seasons.

The volleyball team came out blazing this past weekend in their own Culvers Governors Challenge winning their first three matches, including a five-set victory over nationally-ranked #19 Missouri, along with wins versus Missouri-Kansas City and Marshall before falling in their final match of the weekend to preseason number two pick in The Missouri Valley Conference University of Northern Iowa.

APSU Volleyball selected second in OVC Preseason Poll

APSU Women's VolleyballBrentwood, TN – Expectations will run high for Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team after the Ohio Valley Conference’s coaches and sports information directors picked them to finish second in the 2017 regular-season race, Tuesday.

In addition to the preseason poll, senior middle blocker Ashley Slay and junior setter Kristen Stucker were named to the 14-member Preseason All-OVC team. Each following a First-Team All-OVC appearance for each last season.

APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – After capturing its fourth postseason appearance since 2010 a year ago, Austin Peay State University women’s soccer will be one of the league’s more formidable squads heading into the 2017 season.

The Governors were tabbed to finish fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference’s annual preseason poll, tied with Southeast Missouri.

Instant Peay Play: 2017 APSU Football Govs looking to end streaks

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With Austin Peay State University head football coach Will Healy’s second nationally-ranked recruiting class ready to take their place, with preseason practice right around the corner, the Governors are looking to put not one but three losing streaks in the rearview mirror during the 2017 season.

Entering the season, the Govs have lost their last 27 contests overall, as well as their last 21 Ohio Valley Conference games – with their last overall win — and conference victory — coming in a 20-13 final versus Murray State on November 18th, 2014 at Fortera Stadium.

APSU receives top OVC Digital Network award

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – For a second straight year, Austin Peay State University received one of the Ohio Valley Conference’s Digital Network Overall Awards of Excellence, presented, Thursday, as part of the OVC Digital Network Program of Excellence.

The university was recognized with three of the program’s seven awards for the 2016-17 academic year. In addition to winning the Overall Award of Excellence by a Campus Production, the university earned awards for Clarity of Production and Professionalism in Announcing.

APSU Baseball’s Parker Phillips, Malcolm Tipler named to OVC All-Freshman Team

APSU BaseballBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Redshirt freshman utility man Parker Phillips and freshman infielder Malcolm Tipler were each named to the Ohio Valley Conference’s All-Freshman baseball team, Tuesday. They become the first Govs named to the team since the 2014 season.

Phillips, from Collierville, Tennessee hit 11 home runs during the regular-season, tying the Governors record for home runs by a freshman.

APSU Track and Field bring 2017 season to a close with more medals at OVC Tournament

APSU Women's Track and FieldOxford, AL – With parity at an all-time high in the Ohio Valley Conference and faced with one of the toughest fields the league has produced in years, Austin Peay State University track and field battled down to the final event at the 2017 OVC Outdoor Championships at Choccolocco Park, Saturday, bringing four more medals back to Clarksville Tennessee.

The Governors final tally of 87.33 points placed them fifth—the fourth consecutive year Austin Peay posted top-five team finishes in both the OVC Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

APSU Baseball errors proves costly in loss to SIU Edwardsville

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – An early five-run deficit proved too much to overcome as Austin Peay State University’s baseball team dropped a 7-4 decision to SIU Edwardsville in Ohio Valley Conference action, Friday night at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay (20-23, 11-13 OVC) got off to a shaky start, particularly on defense as it committed six errors in the first five innings.
