Belmont wins Ohio Valley Conference Tournament 70-68 over Murray State

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceNashville, TN - Words won’t do it justice. In a game befitting the drama of championship week, Belmont University men’s basketball defeated Murray State, 70-68, in overtime to claim the 2013 OVC Men’s Basketball Championship and earn an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.

APSU’s Chris Horton named OVC Freshman of the Year joins Travis Betran on OVC All-Newcomer team

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Chris Horton, who became the first conference player to block 100 or more shots since 1996-97, has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year.

In addition, Horton and Govs’ leading scorer Travis Betran were been named to the OVC All-Newcomer team. The OVC post-season basketball honors were announced Tuesday by the league office after a vote of league coaches and sports information directors.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurray, KY – In a season of frustrating losses, chalk up maybe the most painstaking for Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, Saturday afternoon in the CFSB Center.

All-America guard Isaiah Canaan connected on a traditional three-point play and a long three-point shot in overtime to lead Murray State to 78-65 victory in an Ohio Valley Conference.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball comes up short again in final minutes to fall to Murray State Racers 71-68

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s final minute rally came up short as it fell to rival Murray State, 71-68, Saturday night in Ohio Valley Conference basketball action.

The loss dropped APSU to 5-13 overall, 1-3 in OVC play, while Murray State improved to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in the OVC. It was the Govs’ fifth loss by three points or less this season.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Isaiah Canaan scored 27 of his game-high 35 points in the first half to spark No. 18/19 Murray State to a 87-75 Ohio Valley Conference victory, Saturday night, in Dave Aaron Arena.

The victory improved Murray State to 16-0 overall and 4-0 in the OVC. They are just one of three unbeatens at the Division I level.

Josh Terry goes up and under for 2 of his 16 points Saturday night against the Murray State Racers. Terry led the Governors in scoring.

First place at stake as Governors play host to Murray State

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN - It only seems appropriate Austin Peay and Murray State will be battling for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference, 7:30pm, Saturday, in Dave Aaron Arena.

Since 1987 one or both teams have appeared in the OVC tournament title game. Since the turn of the century, the Govs have won four regular-season OVC titles while Murray State has won two, including last season. In other words the two programs have appeared in a multitude of intense ball match ups, some surrounded by controversy.

Governors snap Racers’ 25-game home win streak with 66-64 victory

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurray, KY – Austin Peay State University snapped the nation’s fourth longest home winning streak, Saturday afternoon, as it held off Murray State, 66-64, in Ohio Valley Conference basketball action, played at the CFSB Center in Murray, KY.

The victory was Austin Peay’s fifth straight and improved them to 5-0 in the OVC and 11-6 overall. Murray State falls to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the OVC.

The Govs’ victory snapped the Racer’s 25-game home winning streak. Only Kansas (68), Duke (28) and Kentucky (26) had longer winning streaks entering Saturday. It also snapped Murray State’s 18-game OVC home winning streak.
