APSU Softball beats Morehead State, Eastern Illinois at OVC Tournament

APSU SoftballOxford, AL – Austin Peay State University’s softball team continues to add to its 2018 legacy with two more Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament wins, Friday, at Choccolocco Park, downing Morehead State, 1-0 — in 10 innings — before defeating Eastern Illinois, 3-1.

With the victories, Austin Peay (39-16) will finish no worst than third place in the tournament, its best finish ever in the tourney, while the three tournament wins are also a school record.

APSU Softball sets school record for number of wins in a season with sweep of Eastern Illinois

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Morgan Rackel pitched the Governors first no-hitter in 21 years in Game 1 versus Eastern Illinois, Sunday at Cheryl Holt Field at Joe and Cathi Maynard Softball Stadium, to help propel the APSU Govs to an Ohio Valley Conference sweep of the Panthers in 1-0 and 11-5 finals.

The two wins for the Govs (33-15, 14-4 OVC) also help set a school single-season record for victories, breaking the old mark of 32 wins set back in 1989, while also guaranteeing the team a spot in the OVC Championship Tournament for the first time since the 2007 season.

APSU Softball hosts SIU Edwardsville, Eastern Illinois this weekend

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will conclude its 2018 home slate of games this coming weekend, at Cheryl Holt Field at Joe and Cathi Softball Stadium, by hosting Southern Illinois Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference doubleheaders.

The weekend’s action begins, 1:00pm, Saturday versus SIU Edwardsville and wraps-up, 1:00pm, Sunday with a match-up versus Eastern Illinois.

APSU Athlete of the Week Brooke Moore

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Freshman outside hitter Brooke Moore, of the Austin Peay State University football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Louisville native led Austin Peay to its first Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title since 2010, leading the tournament with 48 kills and posting a .305 attack percentage in contests against Southeast Missouri, Eastern Kentucky and Murray State. In the process, she became the first freshman in league history to take tournament MVP honors.

Murray State earns spot in OVC Volleyball finals with victory over Eastern Illinois

 

2017 OVC Volleyball ChampionshipClarksville TN – Third-seeded Murray State defeated seventh-seed Eastern Illinois, Friday, November 17th, 2017 at the Dunn Center, to advance to the Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament finals with a 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-17) victory.

Much like their quarterfinal match, Murray State (22-8) got off to a slow start despite jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead before Eastern Illinois (15-15) rallied back to take a 7-4 lead.

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – In the final game of the 2017 regular season, the Austin Peay State University football team will take on Ohio Valley Conference for Eastern Illinois 4:00pm, Saturday, November 18th, 2017 at Fortera Stadium in Clarksville.

The Governors return home for the first time in almost a month after picking up back-to-back road wins at Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky.

Eastern Illinois pulls upset versus SIU Edwardsville in OVC Volleyball Quarterfinals

 

2017 OVC Volleyball ChampionshipClarksville, TN – It’s not a tournament if you don’t have at least one upset in it and Eastern Illinois did just that in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament, November 16th at the Dunn Center, as the Panthers defeated the Southern Illinois Edwardsville 3-1 (25-27, 25-20, 25-19, 25-19).

The seventh-seeded Panthers (15-14) only took one set off the second-seeded Cougars (23-6) during their two regular-season meetings, but could have beaten SIUE in three straight sets if not for a cold stretch at the end of the first set.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors Football has chance to make history with Eastern Illinois win

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s football team’s turnaround this fall has been one of the best stories in all of college football, but November 18th, 2017 at Fortera Stadium, the Governors have a chance to make what was once thought to be almost the impossible probable with a victory versus Eastern Illinois.

The Govs enter the season’s final contest versus the Panthers with a 7-4 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Ohio Valley Conference games, which currently puts them alone in second place in the leagues standings, with EIU sitting in third place and looking to tie the Govs for the number-two spot in the final regular-season OVC standings.

APSU Volleyball beats Eastern Illinois for Fifth Straight Win

APSU Women's VolleyballCharleston, IL – Senior Ashley Slay and redshirt junior Christina White combined for 22 kills as Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team handed head coach Taylor Mott her 100th APSU victory in a three-set sweep (25-19, 25-23, 25-14) of Eastern Illinois, Friday, at Lantz Arena.

Austin Peay (22-4, 10-1 OVC) needed to fend off a Panthers’ challenge in the second set.
