Khowst Province, Afghanistan – The sun begins to rise on the mountains of Khowst province as Soldiers assigned to different units within 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), ready their gear and each other while being briefed on the intense upcoming events for the day.

Nineteen Soldiers competed in the brigade noncommissioned officer and Soldier of the quarter competition on Forward Operating Base Salerno, Afghanistan, February 15th.

James Craig, an air defense battle management system operator assigned to Headquarters, Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), uses a rope to pull himself over a large dirt wall in the obstacle course portion of the brigade noncommissioned officer and Soldier of the quarter competition on Forward Operating Base Salerno, Afghanistan, Feb. 15, 2013. Christmas with 101st Airborne Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans”

Khowst Province, Afghanistan – During this holiday season, Soldiers with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), will be spending the holidays deployed while in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The currently deployed Rakkasans are unable to spend the holidays with their families, but with the reality of deployment at hand they still have the support from both the American people and the military.

Soldiers and Families of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team Celebrate Christmas

 

Fort Campbell, KYRakkasanChristmas is an especially tough time for soldiers on deployment to foreign lands as they are separated from their families and friends. This includes the soldiers of the 320th Field Artillery Regiment part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division “Air Assault” who are serving in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Soldiers from each of the Regiments component companies were given the opportunity to send holiday greetings to their families.

The 3rd Brigade Combat Team receives new Command Sergeant Major

The 3rd Brigade Combat Team Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – The 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) has entered a new era of leadership as a new brigade command sergeant major took responsibility for the unit’s 3,500 Soldiers, May 4, in a Fort Campbell ceremony.

Command Sgt. Maj. Eric Crabtree, incoming brigade command sergeant major assumed responsibility from Command Sgt. Maj. Greg Patton, who held the position since 2007.

Foster recieves Silver Star

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A former Fort Campbell Soldier and member of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, received one of the Army’s most prestigious awards during a pre-game ceremony at Angel Stadium in Anaheim CA, April 9th.

Daniel Foster, formerly a specialist in the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, was presented the Silver Star medal for heroism during a May 21st engagement against terrorist forces while deployed to Afghanistan in support Operation Enduring Freedom.
